As I'm sure you've all heard, Hurricane Sandy is on its way to the northeastern United States. Millions of people are going to be affected (and trust me, do not, under any circumstances, underestimate the power of this storm and the 2 storms that are converging with it; if you want to know more about what I'm talking about, read this). Numbers certainly in the hundreds are also going to be affected who are on this site. And this is partially why the announcement is being made. Two of our admins (therealcu2010 and MarioGS) are right underneath the hot spot, and could be out of power for days. Prizes, while not in the path, has family around there and may be preoccupied helping them out if things are bad. Should Jon be preoccupied and cu and Mario lose power (which is a huge stretch, but still, do not underestimate this storm), I would be running the site. Just so you know. Also to note, this is no excuse to act up, I don't put up with crap very easily. Please, please, please, stay safe. |

I do hope that everyone is safe so far, especially cu and Mario. As Guint said, this storm is very powerful and very dangerous. Don't be as some were that I saw on the news tonight that were standing out on docks and shores waiting for the storm to arrive. When officials say evacuate, do it immediately! Don't put your life in danger, because when you're gone, there is no do-over; no second chance. Be careful! As for acting up, I'm right there with Guint. I have 0% tolerance for ignorance and stupid shit. I am a mod and I will enforce my power as need be. Deal with it!  |

I have no power, but I'm OK. Pretty much the whole county is out and a lot of people not far from me have it WAY worse.

Whereas I was largely spared- it turned out to be nowhere near as bad as people expected up here. We had some heavy winds last night, and a few lost power, but otherwise, we're okay. Damage was relatively minor, and those who did lose power had it restored within hours. There is rain in the forecast here over the next few days, as the remnants of Sandy's system makes its way along the St. Lawrence River, but we're at a high enough elevation where flooding, if any, should be minimal. Also, I'm unlocking this thread, so members can send well-wishes to anyone affected by the storm...but, please, don't be pill-pushing. |
