I don't think I've ever heard of this guy, but he did pretty good. He was not a stiff as Rolf.

One other catch. TWO $300's adjacent to each other. Like the time there were two $200 spaces next to each other in round 2.

Just when I thought 2012 had sucked the Wheel rarities well dry... Thanks to "rlrvertigrated" for unearthing this. Brando spoke of this audition with Steve Beverly back in July 2008, and stated that the auditions were held during the lunch break. According to Tim, this was August 1988, and the set plus off-model $300 indicate that that this was after Season 6 began taping. Of course, Brando also said that Charlie O'Donnell helped with the auditions, which I doubt heavily given surrounding evidence. Someone who taped a lot of Season 6 from GSN may be able to figure out what week this was taped during. I don't think I've ever heard of this guy, ESPN sports commentator at the time, CBS sports commentator now; the cable network thought his getting Wheel would bring a lot of cross-promotion (or at least an increased awareness of ESPN). One other catch. TWO $300's adjacent to each other. Like the time there were two $200 spaces next to each other in round 2. And just like the second half of Season 5, it's a regular wedge next to a goofy-looking off-model wedge of the same value. some gaffs though, "750 top value" when 1500 is there and is this the shop or cash era Brando was auditioning for the daytime (shopping) on the nighttime (cash) set, hence he got the rules "wrong" because he was going by the rules of the version he was trying out for. "He could host the show tomorrow." -Merv /and it still isn't Christmas yet!

And he said $750 was top dollar value. Not only was it twice as much, where's $750?
And I saw the red space on that rug in the background. If it wasn't for the low quality, it probably would've given us that value, and then we'd have one more value to figure out.

This wouldn't have been a bad choice. He felt a little more natural than Rolf.

I don't think it's that bad. Different, but I'd be hard-pressed to find any legitimate problems with his hosting.

The contestants on this audition were on the nighttime show 9/27/88. David White was killed by a drunk driver the week before his show was supposed to air.
