This is my first attempt at doing a WoF Recap and I haven't seen one for this particular episode so here goes...
"Look at this studio, filled with glamorous prizes, fabulous and exciting merchandise including:
A $15,000 Mazda RX-7!
A $15,000 pair of diamond earrings!
And a $10,000 Dodge Colt!
Over $101,000 waiting to be won tonight!"
Let's meet our contestants:
Niki Jackson, a signer and dancer with six children and 12 grandchildren.
Tony Henrich, a singer and old movie collector from Chicago, Illinois.
Terry Wharton, a fashion instructor who enjoys golf and her puppies.
The top dollar for round 1 is $1,000. Pat reminds our players to watch out for the Bankrupt because if you land on that, you lose your cash but not your merchandise. Once you buy a prize, then it's yours to keep.
Round 1:

PHRASE
Niki starts off the game with a $400-spin and picks the T, of which there are none. Tony lands $350 and picks up a pair of S's. Another two N's gives him $400 apiece, followed by a $300-P and a $350-G. At this point...

PHRASE
Tony elects to solve and nails it with A PASSING FANCY for $2,150. That money is his to spend in the Luxury Bath where he buys the armoire for $1,920 and the perfume for $185. The remaining $45 he puts on a gift certificate.
Sole Dud: T (Niki)
Scores:
Niki: $0
Tony: $2,150
Terry: $0
That $1,000-space is still on the wheel for Round 2 and tonight's featured wheel prize is a television set worth $1,200.
Round 2:

PLACE
Tony begins the round by spinning $900 with two T's, then picks up $200 apiece for two S's. After buying the E, of which there are also two, another two R's gives him $500 each. He picks up another $400 for a lone L but buys a dud A. Terry's first spin is worth $800 which is good for three N's on the board but unfortunately hits Lose a Turn on her next spin. Nikki spins $700 and a pair of C's gets her double. She then buys an O, getting three of those, and an I, two of which in the puzzle. One letter left on the board and Niki spins, barely getting out of Lose a Turn and calling the M for $800. With the puzzle completely revealed...

C E N T E R
PLACE
Niki reads MISSION CONTROL CENTER for $1,700 to spend in the kitchen. Her first purchase is the $1,299-refrigerator (which she had decided on even before Pat introduces the room). She then buys the dinnerware for $390 and puts the $11 left over on a gift certificate.
Sole Dud: A (Tony)
Lose a Turn: (Terry)
Scores:
Niki: $1,700
Tony: $2,150
Terry: $0
The $5,000-space on the wheel for round 3 may mean lots of money with this long puzzle in play...
Round 3:

QUOTATION
Terry begins the round by landing $5,000 on her first spin...and FIVE T'S earns her $25,000! On her next spin, she just overshoots the big one but picks up $300 apiece for three H's and buys the E, of which there are four. She then calls N, picking up two at $500 each, before buying the A, three of which are in the puzzle. A pair of $5,000-spins gets her another $25,000 in her bank with two D's and three F's. She almost nails the top amount twice, settling for a two $500-choices: One G and two Y's. After buying the O, four of them, and the I, two in the puzzle, she spins $5,000 for the FOURTH time this round and doubles that with two R's. Still visibly stumped by the puzzle...

QUOTATION
And successfully caps off the symbolism of this puzzle by solving THE THRILL OF VICTORY AND THE AGONY OF DEFEAT. Terry loses her $62,400-haul and Niki's meager $1,100 gives her the privilege of shopping in the master bedroom. She buys the bedroom set for $1,067 and puts the other $33 on a gift certificate.
The Dud Heard 'Round the World: S (Terry)
Scores:
Niki: $2,800
Tony: $2,150
Terry: Nothing but agony.
Round 4 (Full Speed-Up):
Vowels worth nothing, consonants worth...$5,000! Maybe Terry can make up for all that lost money.

THING
Niki stretches her lead by solving RUBBER BAND for $10,000. Since she has enough to buy an Australia trip worth $6,970 or a $4,500 London/Paris trip, Pat makes her an offer to buy either or put it all on a Cartier gift certificate. She opts to buy the London/Paris trip with the remaining $5,500 going on the certificate.

DQ: 1 blown solve (Niki).
Final Scores:
Niki: $12,800

Niki is ready for the bonus round...but is Pat? She wants to play for the Mazda RX-7, worth $15,916.

_ _ _ _ _ / _ _
PHRASE
Her choices of T R S N L E are good for...
T _ _ E / _ T / _ R
L E _ _ E / _ T
She can easily take the car with TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT but..."Oh no!" Pat may want to consider leaving the studio due her family's raucous celebration! Regardless, Niki comes out huge with $28,716 in prizes. Pat and Vanna do not do their sign-off. Instead, while Jack reads the disclaimers at the end of the show, an exhausted Pat chooses to nap in front of the puzzleboard!
Merry Christmas, everybody.
