Proof that the SEVEN SWANS A-SWIMMING/HICKORY-SMOKED COUNTRY HAM inconsistency of last month isn't the first instance of double standards...
* The Modesto Bee, 2/19/88 -- a daytime contestant (the aforementioned Forst) isn't given credit for adding "the" when solving the puzzle ATLANTA FALCONS, while a lady named Lorraine some days later got credit despite adding "a" to TINGLING SENSATION.
While the rules indicate that adding "a" or "an" is permissible if Pat asks "What is it?" or "What are we looking for?", there was no such question on the latter. The worst part is that Compliances & Practices knew this, but since Lorraine had already been awarded the money Wheel "had no intention of playing the Grinch".
Oh, and it gets better!
* Orlando Sentinel, 4/7/88 -- Forst admits that talks with Nancy Jones didn't go well. According to him...
Forst's case to Nancy was that he clearly knew the solution and Pat knew he knew; he only added "the" because it would've sounded dumb to just say "Atlanta Falcons". He then further clarified by saying "You're not going to say, let's go to Dodgers game, or let's go to Lakers game." Trust me, Robert -- wait 20 years, and you'll see Wheel go that route over and over.
Wheel has always had problems with consistency regarding these kinds of rulings. I also notice that the ruling which gave somebody money despite screwing up was upheld, so there's consistency in that regard.

''Her answer was, 'Look, you're not getting the money and you're not coming back on the show. You and I can talk about it for the next six hours and nothing's going to change.' And then she said -- get this -- 'Robert, why don't you lighten up?' Who . . . is she to tell me to lighten up?''
