One of those "what-if" threads. What if retired elements (Free Spin, Double Play, Daytime Jackpot, Star Bonus, Big Money, Surprise, Shopping, etc.) were brought back in the present day? How would they be today compared to when they were on during their time?
Would Double Play be lost to Bankrupt? Would Star Bonus give players a chance for a second prize in the Bonus Round? Would Free Spin be used with Free Play somehow? Would Daytime Jackpot, Surprise, and Big Money offer more valued prizes? Would Shopping be used for one prize per round only? Those are my guesses. What are yours?

One element that I have been thinking would be vastly different if brought back would be shopping. If they had completely resurrected the shopping format in these days, there probably would not be much variety to the available prizes, mostly trips and cars (which is what they mostly offer now as it is). How I'd like to see it resurrected would be in an entirely different way: Have Round 3 be the "Shopping Puzzle" (instead of the Prize Puzzle), and after a contestant solves the puzzle, spend the winnings on a selection of prizes available similar to the old days, but just for Round 3. (Better than giving away a guaranteed trip that takes up your score so much you end up winning the game on just that round alone, I think.)

I like to see Surprise wedge returns. All it need is to retire the prize puzzle, it started to get boring. Most of the prizes are just trips (mostly is just Hawaii or any other beach trips), and viewers don’t win it anymore (I doubt the show will bring SPIN ID for PP back for next season, but I could be wrong).
I also like to see the short-lived Double Play. Seeing the Wild Card on the bonus round just give me the idea. If someone brings DP to the bonus land, the BR prize they won will be double. $30,000 will be $60,000; $100,000 is $200,000; they can even win $2,000,000 if they bring MDW. If someone wins the car, he/she get two cars plus $10,000. Like that idea?

SURPRISE could work if the sponsor wouldn't mind giving away a prize with no guarantee of a mention.
I'd also like to see some SONY prizes in there, like a home-theatre system, or a TV.
The Double Play idea djchhs mentioned is actually great! I could see that working well.

Have to agree with SURPRISE the most. Only offer it in Rounds 1-2, keep the Prize Puzzle (as it proves to be popular with contestants and guarantees not just a prize, but also promotional sponsorship), but offer the SURPRISE as merchandise or shopping sprees.
I initially thought that DOUBLE PLAY would be a great idea, but the WILD CARD essentially does what the DOUBLE PLAY did, but in reverse. The WILD CARD allows you to essentially double your winnings (or more) on one spin, since most players use it when they know another letter in the puzzle. Interesting idea with the Bonus Round, though, except I wouldn't offer two cars, but instead offer $10,000 cash with one car.

I'd opt to eliminate the Wild Card and go with Double Play. It makes it more suspenseful and challenging since you have to use it BEFORE you spin, unlike the WC.

I honestly think Daytime Jackpot should replace the current one. Too complex. If they brought back the Surprise Wedge, the prizes should be REALLY good. Average should be around $1000-$2000 more than the common prizes.

If Double Play were around today, it would probably be lost to Bankrupt since every other piece of cardboard is now. If it's used before hitting the Prize Wedge, rather than the whole "take it back or apply it to next spin" deal, it could award the prize (x1) and $1,000 per letter. Same for most of the other cardboard. If it's used for the MDW, it gets given back. If it's used for Free Play, consonants would be worth $1,000. Now for the more complex stuff...would it be too unfair if it worked for the Jackpot (it would be awarded double if the player solved for it)? And for the Mystery Wedges, the face value would be $2,000 and its prize would be treated as $20,000 if revealed. Pat could even take back the $10,000 wedge and give the contestant a special $20,000 wedge in its place. I think the idea of having it be usable in the BR is a tad much, though. If that were a case, probably no one would use it in the maingame.
Surprise would be great to see return. It could sit where the gift tag is now.
I was never fond of Free Spin as a single token, so I thought of a cross between the token and wedge. There would be a cash wedge with the token covering the dollar sign, and when a player called a right letter after landing on it, Pat would hand them a token. This way, more than one player can earn one. Unlike the FS wedge, a player can only hold one at a time, so if they hit the wedge while already holding one, it will be treated as a normal wedge.

- Free Spin: I like how the 1/2 Car regenerates and think that should be put into Free Spin. - Surprise. I like the idea of having a new prize added on the wheel each round, so Surprise in Round 1, move the Wheel Prize back to Round 2, and add another for Round 3. - The $10,000 Wedge. Actually easier to win than the Mystery.
