A few observations:
* Has anyone ever won the Mystery Round with just the $10K before?
* What's this? A BR where CDMA is actually helpful, and BGHO completely useless?
* Yay, another ask P&V question!

Tammy did a whale of a job & way more than covered her road trip from there & back! I thought the first word of the bonus puzzle world be TRICK, but later I thought it would be TRUCK. I didn't get the bonus puzzle until late.

Toss-Ups: Yup, the theming is hitting hard and early. R1: Triple L and double D go uncalled, but Tammy still has a nice round with the featured trip and some cash in hand when she takes advantage of her opponents' Bankrupts and finishes up the round. R2: The Decades gets a use outside of the world of toss-ups, pretty much as a pop-culture dump (c'mon, why not People/Title? ). Up comes the MDW with the very first spin of the round! A Lose a Turn torpedoes our chances of that getting locked in, but then the Mystery prize flips up! Again, Tammy leaves a lot of multiples on the board, but $10,000 is well worth it. R3: Tammy is pretty much on fire in the maingame... the 1/2 Car tag is worthless, but she has close to $9,000 cash and the trip this round! Three in a row makes for a big lead! R4: Lawren tries to get in on the action with a $5,000 hit, but her dud A puts a quick end to that. She does get control back though, and $4,250 isn't too bad for a short puzzle. R5: Well, there's an edit there, as the wheel spins most of a rotation during the jump cut. The end result is $1,450 a letter and $2,900 for Chris as he staves off the Pity Thousand. Bonus: I RSTLNE'd this with little trouble, while Tammy's CDMA is actually better than BGHO, which would strike out. She's got another $45,000 to finish over the $80,000 mark! Overall: A great night by Tammy carries this show. Well done by her, and an 8/10 overall.

R2: The MDW's really prone to getting hit first, isn't it? Just in that area, I guess...I wish whenever it was hit first, the audience would actually notice it, though... That awesome instant Mystery win more than made up for the MDW getting lost! R5: That Bankrupt Final Spin was clear as day. And people still think the show is rigged because Pat supposedly never hits it. BR: Tammy sure got a break there. Excellent instant solve! She deserved a high envelope. It seemed like somebody from the old writing staff did most of the work tonight. R4 was surprisingly short. I was surprised there were no cut turns in R4 or 5, though we were one lost turn away from a full cycle in each somewhere. Also, notice how all of R1-3 used "and" somewhere. If R1 had spelled it out, it would have had to be on its own row, and that would just look ugly. * Yay, another ask P&V question! Too bad it had nothing to do with the show itself...Plus, at this rate, we're probably not going to get more than two more questions before the season's over. I actually found the "sample" question the most informative so far. Tammy did great! Very happy for her. The others did well, too. No fatal errors at all tonight. Audience, OTOH, could have been way better, but the only reaction-worthy spins tonight just had to come at the starts of their rounds where they never pay attention to the Wheel at first for some reason, so I'll give the benefit of the doubt on this one... Rating: 8/10

This was a great start to the week. R1: The L's and D's were uncalled, but nice round for Tammy (that includes her CA trip). R2: That MDW didn't last long, but Tammy made quick work and won that $10K MW! TPH, Jacinta in the red position won that MW alone from the Feb. 6, 2009. R3: It's probably a good thing Tammy didn't win the Sonic, because she would have to pay more taxes. Still, another nice round for her. R4: Now that's a RULE OF THUMB in this game -- solve if you had a good chunk of change showing, which Lawren did. R5: Good for Chris to avoid being gooseegged. Bonus Round: It took me a couple of seconds, but I got it w/ the RSTLNE. Great $45K win by Tammy! She played very well tonight! MY EP. RATING: 8 out of 10

Oh, how I remember that opening clip so well. TU2: Never knew a group of dolphins was known as a pod. Hey, I learned something today on Wheel! R1: I would've gone for the L's, but I think Tammy did pretty well here, as she has almost 10 grand already! R2: Aww, would've been nice for Chris to lock in that MDW. But now Tammy gets to add that $10K to her total! R3: If only "Multiple Verbs" was a BAVGO event. I would've gone for -ING right away, but regardless, Tammy did very nicely here! Wow, Tammy's proving to be quite the player tonight! R4: I got the answer once the R popped up. Nice job by Lowren! R5: I got this one the same time Chris solved it. Good to see Chris won't have to settle for the Pity Thousand! BR: I thought of all kinds of possibilities with RSTLNE, but I got the right answer with Tammy's picks. Nice solve by Tammy, and a great end total, too! Congratulations, Tammy! Excellent episode tonight! Not often do you see wins as big as that one. This one gets an 8.5/10 in my book.

I'm going to forgo my usual comments this week and share some personal insights from the contestants and what I remembered about them. This was definitely a fun way to start the taping day. The audience was getting into it. Plus, you could ACTUALLY HEAR ME FROM THE STANDS! (I shouted "GO FOR IT!" when Tammy was thinking about whether or not to flip the Mystery Wedge) I also remember getting shushed by the coordinators as me and a few other contestants whispered "Santa Barbara" during TU1 and immediately getting TRICK PLAY once Tammy's letter choices were revealed.
LAWREN: Didn't remember too much about her, as she was rather quiet and shy, but played through the rehearsal game and stood up to Tammy pretty well. I was happy to see her hit the $5,000. Got a handshake from me when she returned to the audience.
CHRIS: Didn't remember as much about him, either, but generally a likeable guy backstage. When rehearsing what he was going to say for his "Pat Chat," he was originally going to say "And Pat, if you need Super Bowl tickets, I'm your guy." However, the coordinators told us not to say anything that would date the show and pretend it was actually the air date when we announced events, so I think that plan got torpedoed. I was afraid that we were going to see the first Pity Thousand of the day with him, but he was sharp against a dominant player. I was pulling for him when he got the MDW. Great game player, got a high-five from me when he returned to the audience.
TAMMY: Definitely one of the most memorable contestants of the day. She sat right next to me in the Green Room. She was the first person to see Oscar, the stuffed ocelot I brought backstage as a good luck charm (it was a gift from my co-workers for being the top-selling developer in October and for getting on the show). She asked about it and took the time to pet it for good luck. Apparently, it worked VERY well. I also remember looking up from filling out my press release to gather my bearings, and I quickly glanced at Tammy's paper. Under the question that asked "Is there anything unusual about my journey?", I noticed that she wrote "I drove 2,700 miles and 50 hours to get here." We started talking about that, and I found out that she attended the Wheelmobile event in the town where I was born (Wilkes-Barre, PA). I also noticed that she entered the studio wearing hiking boots. When I asked her about her dress shoes, she held them up...in a plastic grocery bag. Then, the jokes starting flying: "You'd better win enough to make it back home!"
We gave her handshakes and high-fives as she returned to the audience during one of Jim's warm-ups, where she got a standing ovation from the crowd as she reunited with her family. The best part, though, was when she returned to the Green Room to gather her things and leave during our second lunch. We gave her a massive round of applause and a ton of congratulatory hugs, and I announced that she should've taken her car, loaded it on an airplane, and flew home! In reality, though, she only drove from PA to CA thanks to a one-way car rental. The thing I'll remember the most about her, though, was how sharp, daring, and friendly she was. It couldn't have happened to a nicer, more humble lady.

Wow. Chris couldn't get any closer than that to losing. I'm glad he got something. Interesting day for when the word Titanic is said on the Wheel. As for Tammy, she got a pretty Titanic total of neary $82,000. And a few words to JM. You were there?! Sweet!!

^ That's the only downside, but there were a few upsides: I wouldn't have to worry about winning a Winnebago in the Bonus Round, and I'd have to stay for all five of the other shows, plus I got to bond with my two opponents (and my guests got to bond with the other players when they finished and the other guests throughout the day).

So there is a Winnebago this week?
It seems a bit random to do it during California Coast.

When they announced what the cars and other prizes were backstage, I was expecting something like a Corvette or some other sports car, since that goes with the idea of "cruising up and down the California Coast," but was surprised to hear that a Winnebago was on the line. Still, it made sense, since it goes with the idea of "exploring the open road."

So, much of this was Tammy's show, with her claiming a trip early on, then quickly cashing in a successful Mystery flip, then getting another trip with a good amount of cash.
At least the other two contestants could get something more than the minimum, thanks to TU2 and R4-5.
Unusual BR where CDMA is helpful and BGHO is not. I had it at RSTLNE, though.

Has the Winnebago been used in previous seasons? I have to say, I think it's an odd prize. Anyone who lives in an apartment or condo or any other situation where they don't have space to park a huge vehicle is either not going to be able to keep it, or is going to incur a heck of a cost to store it. Don't get me wrong - I'd be stoked to win pretty much any prize. I just think it's an odd choice.

When the coordinators announced backstage that everyone else was going to play for a Winnebago, I gave a rather strange look and a sigh of relief that I wouldn't have to worry about winning that, let alone what to do if I did. I live in an apartment and have never driven anything bigger than a Honda Civic. I could not drive a big-ass Winnie, even if I tried. On the other hand, I was totally stoked when they revealed what my trio of players was playing for (mods, can I reveal that, and the extra Wheel prize, because I do have an interesting story about that).

On the other hand, I was totally stoked when they revealed what my trio of players was playing for ( mods, can I reveal that, and the extra Wheel prize, because I do have an interesting story about that). Emphasis mine. Hehe, sure, absolute YES from me, since it doesn't Wheel doesn't view the cars as spoilers, it doesn't affect BAVGO (except if it's won or lost), so it's good by me. Plus, any story by you is an absolute JOY to read. How could I say no, given your polite, and fair, request? I'm gonna be the oddball and say I'd like to have the Winnie, since I do a lot of short traveling, with the long-distance trip to see family, from time to time. That reason is odd, but it would give me lots of room to eat, sleep, etc. as necessary. In terms of the show itself, I joined about midway through, and really liked this show, gameplay-wise (audience, erm, not so much). Notably, BGHO strikeout in the BR, and CDMA works? Welcome to 1995, get in the Delorean! My biggest issue was the softness of the P&V question (we need more of those, Wheel!)- didn't we know both these answers years ago? I was talking about this with Wayo last night, and while he expects more on the front of asking Pat and Vanna themselves, rather than Wheel history. I think this can be made into a good question or two that we might not know about otherwise. For instance: Pat's and Vanna's individual favorite memories (Pat would give us something totally unexpected here, I think), or why they actually got involved with a game show in general/what piqued their interest in becoming host[ess].

When rehearsing what he was going to say for his "Pat Chat," [Chris] was originally going to say "And Pat, if you need Super Bowl tickets, I'm your guy." However, the coordinators told us not to say anything that would date the show and pretend it was actually the air date when we announced events, so I think that plan got torpedoed. Emphasis added by me...and why? What if they get a pregnant woman who was (for example) due in February or March but the tapings were scheduled to air in April? Would they just avoid bringing it up or force her to take the America's Game show or shuffle the weeks around or what? Part of the reason I bring this up is because it reminded me of the February 8, 1974 Three On A Match where a pregnant contestant said she would be due in "a couple of months" and the host (Bill Cullen) asked her to be more specific. She said "February", to which Bill noted (after some audience laughter) that she'd probably end up watching the episode with her baby when it airs. Why can't game shows do stuff like that anymore? "We're taping these in July to air in February/March, so you can't mention any events because 1) we act like it's the airdate and 2) we know you can't predict 7-8 months ahead."
