I don't know if these are records for the season, but they must be close...
On March 28, the third-place contestant finished with $11,250 (vs. $11,450 and $13,480).
If by closest game you mean closest first-place win (by lowest margin), on November 29, the winner won by $107.

I believe the highest third-place total is $18,000, on October 7, 2011.
