So I went yesterday to a final audition for WOF, made it past the written test to the end. There were 35 of us left in my audition class, and I know the casting agents are staying today too. I assume they do two groups a day for at least a couple of days to pull contestants from.
My question is this - does anyone have any sense of how many people will ultimately be selected to be contestants? I felt like I did totally fine, but I don't feel like I really stood out in any particularly meaningful way - but I also don't really think I could point to anyone in my group that did. I don't know how often they do these on-the-road auditions and of course, the local auditions, so I don't have a sense for if they'll take like one or two people from our group, or if they have a goal of taking at least the top X number of people from each city or what. Any thoughts?

They were in Chicago? Where exactly were they?

Having recently gone through the process myself (and recently getting the letter!), I'll offer this much:
They're probably going to want to take at least a couple of people from each city--I was on Jeopardy! Kids Week back in 2003 and can tell you that most of us that week were from the South/East Coast. From my audition group they only picked me and, later, one other kid for the DC shows that year.
Granted, I don't know how many people got the letter after the final audition from my group, but I can probably say that there were several people in the group that I could definitely see playing the show for real. But it all depends on a lot of things--who's in which group, for starters. There's just so many variables that I can't say for certain.

germanname1990, it wasn't a Wheelmobile event, it was final auditions. But they were at the Palmer House. WooWho, thanks for the input. Yeah, I can't really say for sure, either. It was hard for me to get a feel of what exactly they were looking for. How long did it take your letter to arrive? They told us about two weeks at most.

Mine came right as the two weeks ran out. Audition was April 3, the letter was in my mailbox on the 16th.

I was at the final audition today also in Chicago. I passed the test and played the mock game. There was roughly 75 at the beginning of the audition, and they narrowed it down to about ~20 after the test. I was one of the last ones called as a test passer so I was getting nervous towards the end. Today was the last day of auditions in Chicago Germanname (but there was no Wheelmobile). Everyone there submitted a video, and iirc, Gary said over 700 people sent in a video for Chicago alone. Good luck Chicagowheelhopeful!

Good luck to you, ten96lt!! Were you in the morning or the afternoon? I was in the afternoon, but I'm guessing they had morning groups as well. Was there anyone in your group who you think really stood out? I feel like there were lots of people who were good at the game, but I can't think of anyone I can think of that was just SUPER EXCITED TO BE THERE!!!! if you know what I mean. Well, one girl maybe a little, but it was so obviously fake and over the top, I thought it was kind of obnoxious. Who knows what they're looking for, though.

I was in the morning. I couldn't tell you if there was anyone that "stood out" because I don't know for sure what they're looking for in their final decision so I can't make that judgement. IIRC, Gary said they wanted people with good natural enthusiasm, but not WAY over the top.

My episode just aired tonight, and I can tell you that in my group, 11 people and 1 couple remained. 3 of those people, including myself, made the show. They're looking for excellent enthusiasm, strong gameplay, and a good sense of humor.

I thought that one contestant looked familiar! lol. I did make sure to keep the pace going and know the rules. There were some people that appeared to not know what the free play was because they'd call a letter, get buzzed, and sit down. So the CCs had to tell them to stand back up it was still their turn.

Thanks for watching! I'm also the featured contestant on the show's website, so check out my blog for some great behind the scenes stuff. Also, my pre-game blog, detailing the audition process, is archived.
I hated that final puzzle...sounds like a cheap Chinese all-you-can-eat place. I had the right idea with -MMY words, but YUMMY just wasn't coming.

No update yet, but just thought I'd post this here. It's Youtube of a local news station in Atlanta doing a story about the final auditions when they were held last year in Atlanta. It's gives a good idea of what to expect at the audition. www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ECsfsy3WkE

I was at the Baltimore auditions at the end of January. I don't know if anyone else from my group made it, but I know at least one other person from Baltimore made it (she posted here as well). Also, they said that we would receive our letters by February 14th if we had made it. My letter arrived on the 15th...just when I had given up hope. I hope you make it! Congrats on making it all the way to the end of the audition. Jonathan - you were great on the show the other night! Well done! I mean, "Yummy Buffet" Come on.
