Not a bad game. Bit of different spin patterns and it could have been really good.
BR was a bit dumb... FOOD & DRINK, anyone?

Jonathan, you did OK, because all of your winnings were in cash. I can see why you picked the C & K for the bonus puzzle, but if you had called the F's along w/ the M's, maybe you might've pulled off the BR (although I did know it after the M's came up, whether it was classified as a Place or not).
I thought Pat's comment of "Stop that!" to the wheel midway in the MR was funny.

I returned from my viewing party about an hour ago, and fielded calls from friends and family. Thanks for going easy on me! Allow me to make some comments on the game, which was somewhat different from what I thought had happened.
- Beth's last name is actually WROBLESKI. She had to spell it out for the contestant coordinators before we went on stage. - I was ready to answer Pat for the second toss-up because Beth and I rang in at almost the same time. That was a long one and the right letters weren't appearing. - I couldn't believe my luck on the first spin of the game. At the party, my friends were cheering pretty well, and when the closed captioning showed Pat acknowledging FOUR Ts, there were big cheers, and a nice celebration for solving the first puzzle. - I should NOT have said "one more time" in Round Two. I actually knew what the puzzle was at that point, but was going for the Rs. I'm almost certain some more spins got edited from that round, and there may have been a dud N. The "STOP THAT!" was darn funny, and you may have seen me crack up at that. I also thought Pat's "neigh sayer" joke was a stinker - you probably saw me make a face at that joke. - I almost chose to spin again for the P in SHOP during the Prize Puzzle, not knowing that it was a triple. I was perplexed by the first two words, though, so I thought of buying a vowel to fill in the gaps - wrong vowel. Once Katie picked off 3 Ps, I knew I was done and my friends knew that I'd be staying home. - I froze during the third Toss-Up because I wasn't watching the third word. I thought the answer was THE INVISIBLE MAN, but I realized that it was going to be wrong, so I stayed quiet. - It was a miracle that the turn got back to me during Round Four. My strategy was to keep the round going as long as possible, building up my score and hoping that it was still my turn, and that I knew the puzzle when it was my turn. I took extra precautions to make sure I called the best multiple on the Final Spin, because I had just witnessed Keisha (from the 3/1 episode) miss the victory by $150 when she should've called a multiple to win. - You did see me shake Beth's hand, but they didn't show me shaking Katie's hand. Likewise, they didn't show Beth and Katie hugging it out with me as Jim threw it to commercial. - For the Bonus, I seriously thought that the last word was either JACKET, BUCKET, or POCKET - hence my calls of C and K. I did need extra letters on the bottom row.
I should mention, though, that despite my venue's best efforts to crank up the sound, we couldn't hear it all that well. We had to rely on closed captioning and running commentary, but everyone had a great time! They were chanting, cheering, and clapping when it was my turn, and taunting and bantering when it was Beth or Katie's turn. Also, I was so busy watching the game, I didn't bother to get many screenshots. A friend did take several, and I hope to see the video online soon (after my enthusiastic antics, why wouldn't I be online?). I don't have a DVR, I'm afraid, but I'm sure someone might be able to post some pics or video of my show.
More to come!

If you hit $3500 in R2 instead of BANKRUPT, you would have had 18550 and ran away with the game. You were already comfortably in 1st so I would say that was an acceptable risk to seal the game and make the PP not matter.
It sounds like dumb PP writing got you. Meh.
You were lucky the timing of this episode worked out that R5 just wasn't going to happen. Playing it out is the right move anyways.
You kind of wasted K. I guess it was OK to call C checking that. It was unfortunate you got a U-only BR.

R1: Great job there, Jonathan! R2: So...many...penalty hits. I felt bad when you hit that Bankrupt the first time, Jonathan. You were doing so well until that Bankrupt stopped you. Well, even though Katie could've gone for more, at least she now has money under her name. I thought the "Stop that!" moment was funny, too. R3: Not that often that U is the first vowel to be bought in the round; but I also thought of SURF SHOP at the time. Katie did a good job finishing the round. Congrats to her on winning the Hawaii trip too! TU3: Sorry to see you freeze up like that. R4: Nice comeback you made there! BR: Well, I was just as stumped as you were. With the RSTLNE I also thought the last word would be either JACKET or POCKET, and with your picks I thought the first word would be GUMMY. I don't blame you for not getting the puzzle; that was a pretty tricky puzzle. Sorry you couldn't add the $40,000 to your winnings. Aside from the BR, you did a really good job, Jonathan. Congratulations on winning over 17 grand! And as long as you had fun, I think that's the most important thing.

Jonathan, let me start off by saying that you were a great contestant. You definitely had the voice part down, enunciating the answers clearly and calling the letters clearly and loudly without sounding obnoxious, and you played with very good strategy towards multiple letters. Is it true you had a party reserved for 50 people? Too bad the audience in the studio didn't cheer at all. I hope you were mad at them for that. I thought the second California Coast session was lively. I guess people left or something before your show... (Did you notice the picture of you on the blog shows your flipper on $2500? I saw it coming because of that.) Any idea when? There's not much of a discrepancy in the spin powers. The only remotely legitimate points I could see there being a null cycle is before your $900 spin, or before Katie's $550 spin for M. Why did Katie have to spingle?! There were three R's! Pat even went "Why?!" when she asked to solve! Did anyone acknowledge that bad move during the break? But all three of those words have C and K in the same position, so just having _ _ C K E T wouldn't help you any further. In that case, you should have called B or P. I had POUCH POCKET at first. That was a tough one. Sorry you had to get it. Oh, and I know you couldn't hear it, but when Pat showed the envelope, the instant "AWWWWW" was so obviously dubbed. So, yeah. Congratulations! Rating: 6/10

Rating: 6/10Thanks for the kind words, Mario! I'm glad I came across as a great contestant. My parents had a party reserved for about 50 people (where did you hear that?), my party had one reserved for about 30, and about 22 came. I was aware that my blog photo had the pointer pointing to $2,500, but thought that was a "Wheel is set at that space" picture. But, I realized that the border on my scoreboard was flashing. As for the crowd, that's strange. In studio, I remember hearing people clap for the $2500 (I really need to see it again) and AWWW for the loss. Either that, or the show did a darn good job dubbing it in. For the null cycle, if there was one, it was probably before Katie's $550 spin. Everything up to the first Bankrupt happened exactly as it appeared. I don't remember much about Katie's Spingle, but I did think it was unusual, as Katie seemed to me to look like she knew what the puzzle was and was going for a multiple. No one really said anything about it. For the Bonus, I was hoping to fill in letters on the top and bottom. That was really the only chance I had at it. My hope was that I would fill in enough letters on the top row to come up with a logical guess for the bottom word, then stick 'em together. I was questioning myself for picking K as I was riding back to my hotel with Leticia (one of my guests). Now you know why I dislike those adjective + noun combos. A few people at my party thought that puzzle stunk. Others said that I just had a tough break. All in all, though, I thought I played the game as intelligently as I could. I do want to see if you have any screenshots you might be able to send me.

The Gift Tag was also missing in the photo. That's how I knew it wasn't from the top of the show. Before the show, I was on Twitter and saw 2 tweets around the sam etime of a 50-person viewing party, with one containing an Instagram link to a picture of a Wheel cake. NOBODY likes the adjective + noun combo puzzles. Any screenshots of any moments you would like in particular?

I honestly made the same Jimmy Buffet joke during the bonus round before Pat did. Weird to see that I was only two letters off. Anyway Jonathan, you did a great job and I was cheering for you all the way. When you called those B's during R4, I knew you knew it and I was excited that you solved and took the lead to win the game. Good game all around and congrats on your winnings.

Thanks, everyone, for the kind words! Even though the game was far from perfect, and I cringed at a couple of moments, everyone at the party and everyone here has been really supportive. I have a lot more stories to share, and I'll bring them to you over time.

I honestly made the same Jimmy Buffet joke during the bonus round before Pat did. Weird to see that I was only two letters off. More than that, since Jimmy Buffett's name has two T's in it. Oh, and he's not a Thing. Agreed with the rest that Jonathan played well, but got hammered by a rough BR. Not even BGHO would've helped that one.

^ Once again, thank you for the good words! I thought I played intelligently, but had a couple runs of bad luck. Oh, TPH, I'm not sure if you noticed, but I think you misspelled Beth's last name. Before we went on stage, we were each shown our Pat Chat cards. I clearly remember Beth having to tell the coordinators how to spell and pronounce her last name. It's WROBLESKI (no U).

Since I don't remember if I asked someone before -- Jonathan, are contestants allowed to question the puzzle writing or category said puzzles are put in? I think you had a good case for saying YUMMY BUFFET should've been Food & Drink. Why did Katie have to spingle?! There were three R's! Pat even went "Why?!" when she asked to solve! When Pat Sajak pretty much goes "Dafuq?" at your decision, you're doing something really dumb. Unfortunately, his incredibly-lame pun cancelled that out. Hey, look, the Trip Puzzle sucks. Your optimal Bonus Round strategies for April 25, 2013:* Modern (2013): MFYU(B) -- although you're likely not going to call that because hey, wrong category * Classic (1998): DKBO -- and get your snarking in the past, too In the battle of CDMA versus BGHO (modern only), tonight's winner is CDMA and the "take a third option" FGHI with two letters each versus BGHO's one.

Wario, while I appreciate the sentiment, we technically couldn't question the category unless it was ridiculously miscategorized. I certainly wasn't going to balk about it backstage or on air...I had already won! A few of my party guests were like "That was a THING?!" when the solution was revealed. Technically, according to my category guide, a THING is "any object animal, vegetable, mineral, spiritual, tangible, intangible..."

One thing I forgot to mention. I'm actually glad I was chosen to play against Beth and Katie. The two of them hit it off from the moment they met in the hotel lobby. They were both affected by Hurricane Sandy, and found out a day or two about the taping after I did, so they just barely made the deadline for accepting their places. Beth and Katie also sat behind me for the bus ride over. I distinctly remember Katie saying that the one thing she wanted to do was win a vacation, since she hadn't had a bona fide vacation since having her child. Naturally, I was very happy when she won the Hawaii trip in the Prize Puzzle (that explained her shocked reaction...that's about as genuine as you can get).
They mainly spent their time with each other, and I noticed a little look of surprise from them when the coordinators announced that the two of them would play each other. Eventually, though, they warmed up to me, and I warmed up to them, as our taping time drew near. I remember them bantering with me when BJ Miller, from the 3/1 episode, was cracking jokes in the audience, and I think one of them (if not both) sang along when "Call Me Maybe" played on the speakers in between tapings. Both ladies did well in the rehearsal game, but Katie came across as more confident, while Beth was more deliberate and a bit nervous (in fact, her first aired spin nearly slipped out of her hand). We did an excellent job calming each other down and just firing each other up that we were able to give it all we had. To be perfectly honest, I thought Katie was going to win, especially after she nailed Toss-Up 3. She put me through the wringer!
I'm kind of upset that the show only showed me shaking Beth's hand after the game. I did shake Katie's hand, and as the show went to final commercial, Katie turned around and hugged me at the podium. Beth followed suit. I promised both of them, in the Green Room, that win, lose, or draw, I would give them a hearty congratulations. When Katie and Beth stepped down from the podium at the end of the game, leaving me to wait for contestant coordinator Gary and a make-up artist for the Bonus Round, they went to do their prize paperwork. That was the last time I saw Katie, as she caught a red-eye that night to New York, and drove back to Pennsylvania in the morning. Beth, on the other hand, saw me in the hotel after I returned from dinner. We chatted for a little bit, congratulated each other, and parted ways after one last hug. Beth was not bitter at all with her $2,000. She kept smiling and laughing through it all. Unfortunately, though, we haven't spoken since. I tried reaching out to Katie via e-mail, but haven't heard back.
All in all, though, I couldn't have asked for two better competitors.

It was great to watch you this night, Jonathan!
R1: Well played and perfect choice of letter on $2,500!
R2: Shame that you had to run into those BANKRUPTS. Katie's spingle was totally unnecessary.
R3: It's too bad the first word tripped you up...
R4: ...but you pulled it off! Great job! I was also afraid Katie would win.
Bonus Round: Looks like Harry got his way. I didn't get your bonus puzzle, either. But at least you ended up w/ all cash so nice job. I thought it was some kind of PACKET or WICKET.
MY EP. RATING: 6 out of 10
And one more thing...I usually don't talk about Pat's comments, but when he said "Don't do that again for legal reasons" to you, he meant that you shouldn't BEND OVER BACKWARDS (the Speed-Up puzzle), right?
