Okay, since it's been a while since I've made an update thread, and with stuff coming for the summer, figured it's time for a routine update.
First off...in the three months since we've converted to PB5, you've probably noticed a lot of minor changes to the site in that timeframe. Fact is, PB5 has technically been in beta since we converted...the full release is this weekend. As a result, there were numerous changes to the software made, along with refinements made to the forum theme made during that time. We hope everyone is enjoying the new software, and is finding it much more user-friendly than the previous software. From an administrative perspective, I have found it far easier to work with- fact is, PB4.5 was kind of a pain for customization.
With that, I should do something I've been meaning to for months now- explain a few of the new features of Proboards Version 5.
Friends! You can now choose to "follow" another user, Facebook style, and get updates in your profile whenever they have forum activity, or are just online so you can send them a private message. If they follow you back, you officially become "friends" with them. Additionally, in the "Friends" tab in your profile you'll see an option to invite your friends to this forum. Simply enter their email addresses, type a message, and they'll get an invitation to join the forums. It's kinda silly, yes, but it's there.
Block user feature. Basically, an "Ignore" feature. If a forum member begins to get on your nerves, simply click on their profile, click the little gear button on the top right, and select "Block User". Blocking users enables you to automatically hide all of their posts, prevent them from sending you messages, hides their activity, and whatnot. If you have a problem with a member, but they aren't breaking any forum rules, we'd prefer if you blocked them as opposed to publicly calling them out...public callouts will only get YOU banned. And we don't want that.
Private conversations. Previously, we had simple private messages. Now, you can start a conversation among many people, while having it remain private. As such, all replies will go in one central "thread", which enables multiple users to share information with one another.
And now, for some site update announcement thingies.
-Season 5 of WOFLive will kick off this summer. Look for more details from Mario within the next month.
-Likewise, the seventh cycle of Daily Puzzle Game is tentatively scheduled to begin June 24th. The BAVGO playoffs will wrap up the first week of June, then the next two weeks, at least for me, will be devoted to the CSS playoffs over on Golden-Road, so DPG has to be delayed until I'm free. We've made a few tweaks to the gameplay, and we think you'll enjoy them.
-We're beginning what I am officially calling the Buy a Vowel Boards Social Media Initiative. In recent meetings among the admin staff, social networking has been identified as a major weakness of the site. In an effort to bolster site growth, we are looking to increase our presence on major social media services (Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, and whatnot)...but we need your help! If you have any ideas on how we can connect with Wheel fans via social media, while maintaining the core of the website, please let me know either in this thread or by private message. All ideas are welcome. If anyone would like to step up and help with this project, send me a PM...just remember, I have to trust you and like you in order to give you orange stars.
We're approaching the home stretch of Season 30. The four weeks of shows taped in New York City begin airing next week, and several of our members were in attendance...look for their reports after the shows air. Additionally, be sure to watch the last week of shows next month (May), as something big is going to happen...
