Farewell, Mark. Thanks for all the hard work you've put in from 1999 to now, and you will be missed.

When I saw the title, I just gasped in shock. No doubt we'll miss him.
I'm sure they'll have a eulogy when the season premieres, but what I'm unsure of is how the show will be run with a new director.

...
I may not like the modern-day Wheel for various reasons, but Mark Corwin definitely wasn't one of them. He was a great director who clearly enjoyed what he did, even if he was seemingly overruled by Friedman on various occasions.
My condolences to his family and the staff of Wheel and Jeopardy!.

Mark was a kind and gentle soul; I had the privilege to meet him in 2004 and we've been in touch ever since. He was the purpose that I kept watching WOF until I was influenced by KISS, but I still watching it whenever I can. I am so blessed to have been friends with Mark for almost 10 years, and I am sad that he passed, but his gifts to me will be in my memory for the rest of my life. Thank you Mark, R.I.P. Wheel fans all around are lighting candles for you.

Any word on who will direct in his absence? I assume one of the associate directors?

A tribute to Mark will air during tomorrow's Wheel rerun (September 4th), presumably during the closing.

Maybe because they feel it will be done too late if they wait until the new season? I remember they also used a rerun for a tribute to Merv after he died. At least Pat won't get to troll people who were sick of the "30" puzzle theme-ing a second time.

I'm glad they're doing a tribute, but why couldn't they have done this just after Mark died? I'm really scratching my head on this one. At least Pat won't get to troll people who were sick of the "30" puzzle theme-ing a second time. If that's what the tribute is going to replace, then why do I have the feeling that's the reason they've edited it into tonight's repeat instead of back when it would've been more timely? I mean, after Charlie died they taped a tribute and edited it into the Friday show of that same week, so there's precedent for doing it in a very short time...although given what they did after said tribute aired, that might not be the best example. I'm curious as to when the tribute to Mark was taped, although I suppose it doesn't matter since in my opinion this whole sequence of events reflects badly on the show.

Here's the tribute for those who missed it. The song is "For Good" from the musical "Wicked".

I may not have cried, but it was still touching. The "trapezoid-N" NBC camera in the first picture was a nice nostalgic surprise, although I can't tell what that writing says at the bottom-right (cue card? Message/signature?). I'm guessing there's not a lot of 1970s photos of Mark, though. Since they didn't mention when he began with Wheel, I will...except I don't know the exact answer. Mark wasn't present for the pilots (unless they brought him in to help Marty Pasetta for the second Byrnes taping), but was on the staff as associate director by the All-Star Dream Machine week of early 1976...at the age of 17.

The "3" on the board in the picture at 1:13 looks off-model. Could it have been Photoshopped?

If it was, I'm not sure how -- Season 20 was the one before the neon border debuted, and it's too early for the "real" 40th.
It could've been "25th", but then wouldn't the zero look off-model as well?

And I'm pretty sure that's Jim in the bottom-left corner on the front row, so the image was recent, nonetheless. Maybe the 3's just look odd like that for real.
