Lots of interesting facts in this 2008 photo gallery of the Hawaii tapings. To name a few...
- The S19 Miami shows were scheduled to tape about four days after 9/11. Pat was driven down via a rented Winnebago, Vanna was brought by boat from the Bahamas where she was vacationing. Contrary to what the Wiki says, they had full audiences.
- During the S15 Denver tapings October 1997, there was a bad snowstorm which resulted in the first tapings having an audience of only venue staff and homeless people totaling about 30, but "They were damn good audience members."
- After the first S26 Hawaii week finished taping, it started raining about 30 seconds after wrapping the last show. The video wall behind the contestants was damaged by water and had to be replaced with an arrangement of plants and trees for the other three weeks.
- The Wheel travels in 10 pieces in special travel cases and takes 2-3 days to assemble.
- For good lighting effects, they waited until sunset to start tapings, which would last until about 12:30 AM.
- Since the show went HD, the stage is "about 20% wider than it used to be" and it is harder for them to book theatres, so they mostly book convention centers now.
- Harry Friedman on a pair of swimming trunks Pat wore: "Those are, I believe, Wheel of Fortune-issued swim trunks, and damn it, we want them back. I think he made off with them.'' :lol:
