And the tapings on the 13th are for ANOTHER Sandals Resorts week (courtesy preacherman) . Seriously. Just speculation, but my guess is that this week is airing for the 14th-18th. |

Some good news and bad news regarding the 6000th show... The good news...There will be an entire theme week dedicated to the milestone called "Wheel 6000". The bad news...It will be celebrated late, the week of April 28-May 2, which are actually the 6011th-6015th syndicated episodes. And you're right, Jess. I was at the second half of the "Girlfriend Getaways" taping and the "America's Game" episode is airing on Tues. April 22.
Jim Thornton also mentioned that they will be taping episodes in Hawaii this September.

Maybe one of those tapings is Sandals Golf Getaway. If they're gonna have a lot of Sandals weeks, then that theme should come again soon.
Oh and BTW, is Girlfriend Getaways on the generic set?

The stupidity of the timing of Wheel 6000 week is incomprehensible to get the big celebratory Friday show in for sweeps. Fixed that for Nielsen.  Wheel did the same thing with the "3,000th" and "4,000th" nighttime shows, so no real surprise. The only difference is that instead of celebrating the milestone early, they're doing it late. |

It's not anything new. The practice of celebrating anniversaries and milestones shortly before or after they actually happen seems to date all the way back to 1985. The daytime show celebrated the 10th anniversary in February rather than in the more logical month of January.

Logic being that because it's a milestone, you want to have as many eyeballs on the telly to watch it. Sweeps logic being that because it's sweeps, you want to have as many eyeballs on the telly to watch. More ratings during sweeps = more money, because it's during sweeps that the local advertising rates are set. (Not national rates, though, those are set by national data and are effective year-round.) Plus, Wheel 6000 will kick off sweeps with a bang for them--May 2014 sweeps begins that week. So tl;dr: 1. Put historic, attention-grabbing theme week first week of sweeps. 2. Make more viewers tune in during sweeps (and they naturally will because you grabbed their attention with these theme weeks). 3.
