What?! How is that even possible for the JACKPOT wedge to be retired?!

You can't spend any of that, so you need to spin the wheel.

Reasons why Jackpot is retired? Because: A) The Jackpot is too much money. B) There are no more small amounts (except small amounts between two special wedges or cardboard) to be covered by the Jackpot. C) The Jackpot cannot be in Round 3, because of the $3,500 wedge instead of $2,500, because adding $3,500 to the Jackpot stacks it too high.
Let's say you land on the Jackpot with $4,000, pick a letter that appears twice in the puzzle, and you solve the puzzle with a $7,500 Jackpot. You have $12,500, which is too much money, and the show does not like to go bankrupt.

This is asinine. Jackpot had an unusually high season, you don't take away a staple of the show. Take away Mystery if the budget really necessitates it.

We can also confirm that despite the MDW's new position, the Gift Tag has not been retired. Where it is now, we don't know yet. We can't assume it's on what should be orange $800, because then the tag's oval design would interfere with one of the Mystery Wedges if that doesn't move.

So what are they doing instead of the Jackpot round? They have to introduce something new like when they retired "Free Space" but added "Free Play"

You mean "Free Spin". The Free Play technically is a "free space". We still don't know the supposed new gameplay element, though. However, take a close look at the first picture posted in this thread on page 1. Looks like across from Free Play, there is a new raised wedge.

Jackpot gone?! Oh, boy. How I always liked it when someone won it. They'd better have something good to replace it, and when I say good, I mean good. If it's the Big Money wedge, that'd be nice. That was a fun wedge in my opinion.
I know that every season since the 17th had something new to offer.
17th: $300 replaces $250 as the smallest value 18th: $2500 replaces $1000 as Round One's top value and Toss-Ups debut 19th: Toss-Ups get new values and $100,000 Bonus Round debuts, although the latter occurs a month into the season 20th: Screen scoreboards, Mystery Round, and $500 parting gifts 21st: New looks and Prize Puzzles 22nd: Mystery Wedges increase from $500 to $1000 23rd: Parting gifts increase from $500 to $1000 24th: New Wheel look for HD; Wild Card debuts 25th: Big Money wedge! 26th: Even Bigger Money wedge ($1,000,000)! 27th: Free Play (Safe Haven) wedge debuts 28th: $30,000 replaces the iconic $25,000 as smallest value; Car comes with $5000 cash 29th: Half-Car tags 30th: All tokens and the Prize wedges finally offer cash like Aussie's version did ($500), and $650 returns from the grave! 31st: Well, I just said it - there'd better something good to replace the beloved Jackpot.

This may sound dumb, but I don't care. What if the jackpot has been replaced with a "Bonus Puzzle..." The round begins with a specific amount like $5000 and goes down the more letters are revealed. When you solve, you get your winnings + what's left in the bank? Kinda like the WorldWinner online version...

I said before that I could feel something had changed, since Friedman's pissed over the last Culver City tapings of S30 and something had to be the sacrificial lamb. The fact Jackpot had an unusually high season made itself a bigger target for Harry's wrath. Can we please lay off this "omg Harry's so evil he wants to spend as little as possible and is mad that the million was won" nonsense? It, along with the similar ranting about Mike Richards on another site, is the most ludicrous nonsense there is. Why would any producer actively be angry that somebody won a big prize...especially one that's likely covered by insurance? Calm down. It's not worth it.

WHAT? That's the most insane retirement I've ever heard. I loved the Jackpot and thought it was a great addition to the show.
Is this supposed to be an attempt to make one full round of the show (not including R4) a "normal" round? If so, I'd rather see the Prize Puzzle take a hike.
Very disappointing decision.

Well, there is one silver lining: if they can just give the ax to something that's been around for 17 years, there's hope that there won't be hesitation to do the same to the Prize Puzzle one day.
It's obvious that the reason the Prize Puzzle only offers trips is because trips are the most rejected prizes of game shows. Reasons such as people cannot take off work, or get someone to take car of their pets, or if they just don't want to go. My grandpa would only want to go somewhere to learn about it's history. For example, if he won a trip to Hawaii, he would only be interested in seeing the Pearl Harbor memorials.
It is pretty obvious that the Million Dollars was not insured. The New York shows featured the most evil bonus puzzles I've ever seen, and I don't think that was by sheer coincidence.
But seriously, axing the Jackpot would not help the budget like axing the Prize Puzzle would. The Jackpot sometimes goes for weeks without being won, whereas (rejected or not) the Prize Puzzle is won every day.

If they did axe the Prize Puzzle, we'd be getting too many 4-digit winners, which doesn't look good on this show in 2013. They'd have to up a lot of the other stakes to compensate.

I think the trips are sponsored quite a bit anyways... disagree that it's for rejection reasons.

Anyway, isn't the point of a game show for contestants to make money. I watch Wheel of Fortune all the time and hear contestants cheering "Big Money! Big Money!" The more money, the better. You should see the changes in store for S32 of Wheel of Fortune. Trying to save money would probably put the show at risk of cancellation. Remember what happened on July 17, 1989 on daytime? Cheapening the Wheel? Obviously, there was no reason for Jackpot to be retired.
