Sony’s Winner Wonderland (Day 2)
It’s around Christmas time, so I guess it’s appropriate that I’m recapping this episode!
If you were watching this on the week of December 12, 2005, you were in for a treat: the Winner Wonderland Sweepstakes from Sony! If you went to Circuit City and got a game piece from some gift card, you could win a grand prize of $25,000! Ten lucky winners would get that! You would also receive a $5K bonus from Sony Card! They’ll mention this after Round 1.
Let’s get to the game.
Toss-Up 1: Phrase
_ / C H _ L L / _ N
_ H _ / _ _ _
A lady named Pat (and she’s standing right next to the host) feels A CHILL IN THE AIR for her first $1,000. Let’s meet her and the other two winner wannabes...
Pat McNeal: A wellness consultant (she works with nutrition and allergies) who’s been married to Ed and was about to celebrate their 30th anniversary a couple months after this taping (Aw...); she had 3 kids and 4 grandkids and is from Creston, MD
Rosie Herrin: A sales rep and the hospitality president at the Greater Ambassador Church (everyone claps for her); she’s a spelling bee champ for the Metropolitan Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction (a church organization); she’s from Upland, CA (near San Bernardino)
Greg Cameron: An Oklahoma State University senior (that college is in Stillwater, OK) who thinks this school is “the best place on Earth”, is studying industrial engineering, and gives campus tours; he’s from Oklahoma City
I’ll refer to the host by his last name at least until the BR.
Toss-Up 2: Around the house
Q _ _ _ T E D
_ E _ _ P R _ _ D
Rosie isn’t sure, but she’s right with QUILTED BEDSPREAD.
Featured Sony/Circuit City Prize: A Sony Vaio laptop, LCD computer monitor; Sony camera, and Walkman; this package is worth $7,367 and I think the week’s featured prizes were all Sony packages sponsored by Circuit City
$10,000 Round: On the menu (PRIZE PUZZLE)
Rosie starts out with a $1,200 R quartet and the same number of E’s before finding 2 T’s for $1,100. She also picks up the Free Spin with an S and buys 3 A’s, but then buys the only bad vowel of this puzzle (the O), so she uses her FS knowing it’s a PP. And that was a good idea - she picks up the Sony package with an L! After buying 3 I’s and a U to clean out the vowels, she lights up 3 C’s on $300, 2 K’s on $300, a W on $350, and 2 H’s on $600. Now she’s ready to solve...
K E _ / L I _ E / _ I E
W I T H / _ R A H A _
C R A C K E R / C R U S T
...and with $4,100 and the Sony package, she can eat some KEY LIME PIE WITH GRAHAM CRACKER CRUST on her $5,300 trip to MIAMI (particularly South Beach)! She’s earned a whopping $16,767 cash and prizes that round alone!
TRIP ID: HM03845
BIG (SEMI-)DOMINATION!
Wrong Letter: O (Rosie, she used her FS)
Pat: $1,000 Toss-Up money
Rosie: $18,767 cash and prizes
Greg: Spinning next
Sajak jokes that Rosie’s one of those contestants that says, “I love you, Pat, but you don’t matter right now.” LOL!!!
Here come the sweepstakes! Remember what was said at the beginning of this recap.
Eggland’s Best Jackpot Round: Before & after
Greg (I keep thinking his name is Mike b/c of another WoF video) instantly Bankrupts near the Jackpot. Pat lights up a $1,200 R pair and a $550 S, but says a T for terrible while on $300. Rosie Loses a Turn, so it’s back to Greg. He lights up an N and 2 G’s on $800 before buying an I and 2 A’s, but he loses his turn with the L on that red space. Pat calls the first letter of her name (the P) on $600, a W on $500, then buys an O and 2 U’s to finish off the vowels...but she and Rosie dud out with D and M on $800 and $600, respectively. Greg, who has $1,900 right now, lights up the frontloading B on the Jackpot...
B U _ I N G
P O W E R
S U R G E
...and claims the $11,350 Jackpot plus that change since he AVOIDED a BUYING POWER SURGE! That round was rough, but it ended very nicely!
Wrong Letters: T (Pat), L (Greg), D (Pat), M (Rosie)
Bankrupt: Greg
Lose a Turn: Rosie
Pat: $1,000 Toss-Up money
Rosie: $18,767
Greg: $13,250
This is a good game so far...
Mystery Round: Song title (it’s a big puzzle)
With a huge gap to bridge, Pat instantly lands on the MW between $300 and $900 and asks for an N. She’s going for it since she’s way behind...there’s the money! She next finds 5 T’s for the Atlantic Luggage gift tag (that’s kind of a waste, but I’ll forgive her for it). and tries to buy an E...but no money, gotta spin again. (And Sajak says “We don’t take luggage.” LMBO!!!) After lighting up an H trio on $400, she buys those 3 E’s and I’s before getting a $900 G pair and a $1,200 S trio. After buying an A and 3 O’s, she lights up an obvious M on $300...
T H I S / _ O _ _ _
_ E / T H E / S T A _ T
O _ / S O M E T H I N G
_ I G
...and THIS COULD (definitely) BE THE START OF SOMETHING BIG - she IDs this Steve Allen song for $13,600 cash and luggage!
BIG DOMINATION #2!
Pat: $14,600 cash and luggage
Rosie: $18,767 cash and prizes
Greg: $13,250
Sajak mentions that $46K+ cash and prizes has been given away so far! Wow! These three know how to play this game!
Toss-Up 3: Living thing
T _ _ _ _ R
W O _ _
Uh-oh Rosie...Pat’s crept up to you with a solve of TIMBER WOLF.
Round 4: Thing
Pat lights up 2 N’s for a grand...
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ N _
_ _ N _ _ _ _ _ _ _
...but we have a $1,600 FS, so it’s anybody’s game.
Pat - 1 T
Rosie - 2 R’s
Greg - 1 S
Pat - 1 L
Rosie - No D
Greg - 2 G’s
Pat - 1 Y (try not to go for the obvious...)
Rosie - 1 W...she knows it, I don’t...
_ _ _ R W _ _ L _ _ N G
G _ N _ R _ S _ T Y
Some OVERWHELMING GENEROSITY in the form of another $4,800 is coming for Rosie! Just look at those scores below...
Wrong Letter: D (Rosie)
Pat: $17,600 cash and luggage
Rosie: $23,567 cash and prizes!
Greg (NOT Mike): $13,250 in cash
Maingame Winnings: A very nice $56,417!
NO BANKRUPT TRASH THIS EPISODE!
Wow, that was a great game!
Bonus Round: Phrase
After surviving a tight match, Rosie introduces us to her sister and daughter. A potential Jaguar X-Type could be in one those cards; she’s landed on the N in WIN.
RSTLNE won’t do much...
_ _ N _
_ _ _ _
Unfortunately, I’ll have to say the same for KDPI...
_ _ N _
_ _ _ K
...and she’s way off with BONE and MINE for the 1st word. The $30K will have to HANG BACK for now, but $23,567 cash and prizes is nice.
Pat the host and Vanna discuss Pat’s websites - patsajak.com and patsajakgames.com.
