Sorry if this may seem like a silly question, but during the Speed-Up round, the music heard in the background, is that actually played in the studio, or dubbed into the episode in post-production? It just seems like it would be very distracting to the contestants if actually played live.

It is indeed played live in-studio. All music is.

Wow... question to any former contestants here, does the music prove to be as much of a nuisance or distraction as it would appear to?

I'll be perfectly honest. It didn't bother me one bit. In fact, I almost didn't notice it when I was playing. On the other hand, my Speed-Up was relatively short (it was my turn when Pat spun, I called my letter, then solved).

Good to know, maybe it just seems louder than it is watching it on TV...

I agree with Jonathan.. You are so focused on the game at that point that you hardly notice it.

I could not have told you whether there was music or not. I was too busy calculating if I was going to hold on to the win. I knew what the answer to the puzzle was, but would be last after Pat's spin. Once I realized there were no multiples and Pat spun $350, I knew I was the winner. At that point, a marching band could have walked through the set and I wouldn't remembered it.
So in summary, it wasn't distracting because it wasn't noticeable.

You seemed very focused on the game, you played quite well... I'm guessing that's a big part of it, being able to just concentrate on the game, not worry about what's going on around you, right? Once again, well done on your game!

So in summary, it wasn't distracting because it wasn't noticeable. Same case for the Final Jeopardy! music, for those of you that are curious. Although I had a different reaction--I was so concerned with writing something down, I didn't hear Alex read the clue, and when I looked back up to read it I couldn't focus on anything. At that point the music was very much in my consciousness, and when the key change happened and I had nothing on my screen except "What", I started to panic. tl;dr: different people notice different things.

Once again, well done on your game! Thank you. I was focused on the game, but not in a real "I've got to win this!" way. I knew I was as prepared as I could be and this would be a fun experience no matter what. I just went into the game with the idea that I wanted to do my best and make the most of it vs. I've got to beat these other two people. I wasn't anxious, but I was excited to be there.
I know it's a simple game, but there a lot of things you have to keep in mind when playing. I was focused on actually spinning that heavy wheel, checking the used letter board, speaking correctly, and where to look for the camera that there were many other things I didn't notice -- what kind of car I had won (even though there was a video on feed on a monitor), I never noticed a camera, I didn't see the video for the trip I won, and worst of all I have to idea what I talked to Pat and Vanna about at the end of the show.
