January 21, 2009. On a computer in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, a man by the name of Mark Liotta would lay the foundation of what would eventually become Buy a Vowel Boards. Then known as Wheel of Fortune Lovers, the site was established to give fans of Wheel of Fortune all around the globe a place they could discuss America's Game. The site struggled under heavy competition from the more-established Sony boards, but continued with a small but loyal memberbase nonetheless.
Two years later, the Sony boards would be hit from an attack by a group of high-profile computer hackers. In this attack, the Sony boards were all but deleted, causing many longtime boardies to flock over to the fledgling Wheel of Fortune Lovers forums. As a result, forum membership grew considerably, along with a greater focus on Wheel of Fortune discussion. A few short months later, a change of ownership consisting of Prizes and myself came along, leading to a change of direction and a fresh new look.
The next summer, the announcement came along that the site would be undergoing a major transformation. In an effort to establish brand identity, the name forever was changed to Buy a Vowel Boards. Five more months down the road, the site was re-launched using a brand new version of the Proboards forum software, one which provided greater customization options while being considerably more user-friendly. In that time, the site became established as a top source for news and information about Wheel of Fortune, and became respected throughout the gameshow community as a whole. In July 2013, the site saw its 1000th member registration come on board, a contestant from the recent shows taped in New York City, no less.
Which leads us to today, January 21, 2014. The fifth anniversary of Buy a Vowel Boards. While people have come and gone over the years, and there have been numerous changes to the site, one thing remains constant- the site's loyalty towards America's Game. The site only continues to grow, and continues to define its place within the Wheel of Fortune community.
As we celebrate Founder's Day today, I continue to thank you, our loyal members, for making this site what it is. Without each and every one of you, this site would cease to exist. It is your dedication to Wheel of Fortune that keeps us moving, and the site only continues to grow. The past 2 1/2 years that I've been on the site's leadership team have been absolutely wonderful, and I have you all to thank. To celebrate Founder's Day, there will be a special edition of WOFLive later in the week; look for more information from forum Admin and WOFLive host MarioGS. For tonight, however, there will be a special chat/livestream starting at approximately 8pm Eastern time, along with another edition of my ongoing Pokemon Emerald Failstream (chat starts at 8, livestream starts at 9 or so). The link to my Livestream page will be placed in the navbar at the top of your screen (look for the "Live" link; my Livestream page will be embedded in there for tonight only). All site members are invited to attend, but as always, you must be logged in in order to view the page.
Here's to another five years! The site has never been better, and will only continue to get better as time moves on!
