Australia's favourite game, Wheel of Fortune!
At our new home, Sydney! It's a whole new (but also same old) game! A whole new set! A whole new theme song!
And here's your new host, Tony Barber!
And here are today's contestants:
Tim (returning champion): Studying to be a teacher
Jo Anne: Enthusiastic about sports
Greg: A part-time pastor
No last names were given by the show.
DISCLAIMER: This is not actually an endorsement of this version. Your recapper is aware of the reputation of Barber's version.
The top-dollar value on the Wheel is 500, and here is Tony's very first puzzle:
Question: What style of singing would you expect to hear in the Swiss Alps?
Jo Anne: Yodelling (Correct!)
For Tony's first lost turn, Jo Anne says AUSTRALIA'S INSTITUTE OF SPORT.
Greg correctly solves AUSTRALIAN INSTITUTE OF SPORT.
For solving, Greg wins a micro stereo system, which is his to keep.
We have a BONUS token which will be placed on 600. The bonus is a compact photo camera.
The top-dollar value on the Wheel is upgraded to 1,000.
Perfection! Tim solves SYLVESTER STALLONE ROCKY for the camera!
And this round's solving prize is a multifunctional fax machine.
We begin another round:
Greg solves TO WIN HANDS DOWN, and in such a way he wins a tumble clothes dryer.
The top-dollar is now 2,000!
Greg solves SAMANTHA RILEY for the last main-game prize: a trip to Palm Beach...but he falls very short of the win.
And we're done!
Jo Anne didn't win anything, but she still takes home a pair of compact binoculars as a consolation prize.
BONUS ROUND:
We still have great prizes such as...
Artisans of the Sea Pearl necklace ($6,000)
Trip to Vienna ($9,570)
Hyundai Lantra Sportswagon GL ($23,990)
We also have a new system in this round. Pick one of five envelopes provided by Adriana. He picks one, and inside is...
Stanley Rogers tableware ($4,545)
But as for the old, we still add 2,855 to Tim's previous 1,195 for a total of 4,050. He gets four consonants and a vowel.
Tim wants to go with RSTD, and E:
He gets 10 seconds, but he doesn't need 'em. He instantly solves CHARIOTS OF FIRE to keep the prize!
Tony will say goodbye for now.

New game structure |
While not announced as such by the show, dollars are now basically "points". They are used only to determine who goes to the Major Prize Round. We no longer shop for prizes, and there will now be more puzzles. However, by solving a puzzle, you will now receive a prize which is yours to keep regardless of what happens later on. More importantly, your points will grow and grow, and they are not saved if you solve a puzzle. If you land on BANKRUPT at any time, your entire score drops back to zero. Really, try to avoid that black space. Now, for control of the Wheel, the first contestant to give a correct response to a trivia question will begin Round 1. |
