Tape date: August 28, 1974
Part 2 of history...
A spinet piano, a trip to Las Vegas, a Muskin Dune Cat, a 24-inch color TV, a 1975 automobile, or a Snark sailboat! These are just some of the many exciting prizes available. Total retail value of all these prizes:
$20,130!
Yours to buy today on...
Wheel of Fortune!
And now, here's your host: Edd Byrnes!
And your hostess, Susan Stafford!
Today's contestants:
Marge Monk (returning champion): Mother of two, Philadelphia, PA
Gary Shriver: School teacher, Bridgeport, CT
Roseanne Horn: Hospital worker, Columbus, IN
(We know this already, but this is a pilot, and the contestants might not know.)
The top-dollar value on the Wheel is $350. Now for our first round, where we are looking for the name of a Famous Person.
Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
...we don't know if there was a rule for repeated letters at this time.
Edd attempts to push Roseanne into spinning one more time.
Roseanne solves PRINCESS ANNE. For solving a puzzle, she has the choice of going shopping or saving the cash for the next round. She's going to go shopping!
The top-dollar value on the Wheel is upgraded to $500. It is time for Round 2. We are looking for Something Good to Eat.
Roseanne solves SIRLOIN STEAK. We add her on-account money to this round for a total of $925, and after that, she'll go shopping!
(Her scoreboard briefly displays $920 before the correction.)
The top-dollar value on the Wheel is now $750. It is time for Round 3. We are looking for a Fictional Character.
After the H, Roseanne opts to solve, but Edd pressures her to spin one more time.
Perfection! Roseanne solves MOTHER GOOSE. That goes with her on-account for $1,865. Time to going shopping again!
We have taken the top-dollar value to the limit...$1,000! But look out! We have added another Lose A Turn and another BANKRUPT. It is time for our last round. We are looking for a Well-known Entertainer.
Edd referred to the S as a "yes". And after the R call, Marge is overcredited by $50.
Marge solves FRANK SINATRA. We end the game here, and because of this, Marge has no choice but to go shopping.
Gary and Roseanne also receive consolation prizes just for coming.
We'll see you next time!

How to play the game |
You spin this Wheel. If you land on a dollar amount, call any consonant you wish. If the consonant is in the puzzle, you win money depending on how often it appears in the puzzle. If the consonant is not in the puzzle, you lose your turn. You may not spin for vowels. You must buy them at a flat rate of $250, regardless of how often they appear in the puzzle. Like consonants, if a vowel is not in the puzzle, you lose your turn, but the vowel will still cost you $250. To win money, you must solve puzzles. After you do, you may choose to spend your money however you want in a lovely showcase of prizes. Any money you decide not to spend on prizes will be put on account. Look out for two spaces. One is Lose A Turn, which is self-explanatory. And DO NOT HIT BANKRUPT, or you will lose your turn and all your cash, even what you put on account. But you will not lose your merchandise, because once you buy a prize, it's yours to keep.™ We have the Free Spin space. If you hit it, you will receive a token. If you are about to lose your turn, you may use the token immediately to keep your turn. Later on, we also have a Buy A Vowel space, which may also be used to buy a vowel in case you think you spun at the wrong time. They still cost $250. At the end of the game, whoever purchases the most value in prizes wins the game, and gets to come back on the next show. Are we clear? Good. |
