UltimaGanon mentioned to me that since the classic section was getting close to 500 recaps, we should do something. I'm not really sure which direction to take, so if we can't think of anything, maybe we could try a little bit of every direction.
Whether it be recapping a special episode, or the recapper subjecting him/herself to a little torture in text form, anything might work.
In my case, I'll attempt to be a masochist and recap an episode from...
...the early United Kingdom version - back when a trivia question was asked every time the Wheel changed hands.
Airdate: December 22, 1988
Celebrity Wheel Of Fortune! Where one spin of the Wheel could twirl someone into some fabulous fortune. You're in for our Celebrity Christmas Special!
One of these celebrities could win £5,000 for their charity:
From Brookside, Brian Regan! (Playing for Royal Liverpool Hospital)
From Coronation Street, Sue Jenkins! (Playing for Cancer Research)
From The Bill, John Iles: (Playing for Mental Health Foundation)
Angela is well guarded, wearing her £1,000,000 jewellery. The audience is impressed!
The top value on the Wheel is 1,000. Answer a trivia question correctly, and you will get to spin:
John solves CRANBERRY SAUCE for a winetable with chairs.
Bah humbug to another BANKRUPT, but a miracle from another 1,000 space!
Perfection! Sue solves I'M DREAMING OF A WHITE CHRISTMAS for some new testing equipment. (Your recapper honestly has never seen one before, and wouldn't know how to describe it.)
Feel the cheer! Another 1,000 space goes on the Wheel!
"No L, the angels they sing!" (Thank you, Nicky.)
John solves PUSS IN BOOTS, but he decides to let Brian have the prize, which is a television set.
One final round:
But we don't have much time for it. Now Nicky gives the Wheel a Final Spin. Consonants are worth...1,000 a piece! Brian is free to call a letter:
Brian: T (x6)
Sue: D (DUD!)
John: S
Brian: F (DUD!)
Sue: B (After which she tries to call R.)
John: R (x2)
Brian: V (x2)
Brian guesses IT'S BETTER TO HAVE THAN TO...and is immediately ruled incorrect.
Sue: C (And she tries to call G.)
Sue says IT'S BETTER TO GIVE THAN TO RECEIVE, but runs out of time in between.
After some trouble, they'll take that answer, since it's a Christmas special. This does not affect the final outcome, as either opponent likely would have solved anyway.
Sue also receives a cheque for £250 towards charity.
The celebrities also wish everyone a Happy Christmas.
All contestants receive the Wheel of Fortune souvenir watch.
£5,000 BONUS ROUND:
It's up to Brian to win the final pot for his charity. His final puzzle is:
He goes with TBDLFA:
He hesitates for a few seconds, but then solves SANTA CLAUS to win the £5,000 for his charity!
And now all the celebrities wish everyone a Merry Christmas.
Whether it be recapping a special episode, or the recapper subjecting him/herself to a little torture in text form, anything might work.
