Good news: Everyone leaves in 5-figures and a Mystery win.
Bad news: MY instead of OUR in R3 and a missolve. And another BR loss. And the Mystery Round was all the yellows needed to win.
My rating: 6
This week is NOT looking good so far...

...I'm really glad I skipped the majority of this show. This week is just a mess, and this show, regardless of the decent maingame winnings, was was the worst offender so far. The Mystery win was good, but in R3, one of the blue members was so sure the other knew it, but she didn't, and neither did the one was asked to solve. That's one reason why teams can be a flop and I really hope Wheel doesn't have so many team weeks next season. At least we had no house minimum solves tonight (even though R3 would have been one if not for the PP). What is with these solvable BR's getting just short of being won? They knew the more difficult word right away but actually thought "TA__N_" was "TAIWAN". -_- If we go 0/5 this week, I swear... At least we saw Event in the BR. The closing, however, was very funny.

Weeks like this make me glad I don't watch modern-day Wheel anymore. in R3, one of the blue members was so sure the other knew it, but she didn't, and neither did the one was asked to solve. That's one reason why teams can be a flop and I really hope Wheel doesn't have so many team weeks next season. Why? Friedman probably thinks this is a feature, not a bug. The closing, however, was very funny. Since I missed the show (and I seem to be pretty fortunate), what was it?

Weeks like this make me glad I don't watch modern-day Wheel anymore. I normally enjoy the modern day show and look forward to watching it every night. Now mind you, I enjoy the classics more like you do, but I normally find the current show to be a pleasurable experience with a flaw here and there in any given episode. Usually there's nothing that makes me so uninterested or disgusted that I just wanted to turn the show off. Well, that's exactly what happened to me on Monday for the first time ever (Most of you probably sensed that if you read my post on Monday's recap). I decided to try again and watch Tuesday's show, and I regretted it even more than the Monday show. After being fooled twice, I wasn't about to be fooled a third time so I decided to just read the recap tonight. Man, am I sure glad I did. This has to be the worst week of the show in YEARS, and that's really saying something considering there have been weeks here and there with some major problems. I think I'll tune out for the rest of this week and just read the recaps and hope that the next week is better.

Not as good as yesterday with only 25 total spins (not counting the Final Spin). Yesterday had 32 total spins and Monday 30. At least we had an entertaining Round 2 with both a fairly painful Bankrupt and a nice ending via a Mystery Wedge. But R3's "What could have been" was not Kristin/Jessica's missolve(s), but Shalonda/Heather passing out on the quadrupule F's before solving, since even if they just spun a $300, that extra $1200 would have been the difference in the game. Another reason why I hate the Prize Puzzle format. I did manage to solve the bonus puzzle after the extra consonants, so once again just nerves that get to the contestants and I feel that on team weeks the smartness value tends to drop a bit. That said, at least the Prize Puzzle winner didn't make the Bonus Round.
Grade: C-
Sigh, 149 shows without the $100,000 or Million wedge. Pretty depressing when the law of averages suggests that it would be hit six times by now.\ REPEATING PUZZLE: GAL PAL (12/3/08, Rhyme Time, TU2)
Interesting fact: One of the actresses in the movie Miss Congeniality was a contestant on Wheel in the late '90s/early '00s, the actress who played Miss New Mexico named Janie. It was a very minor role, however.

I think I'll tune out for the rest of this week and just read the recaps and hope that the next week is better. This is exactly how I feel about the modern-day show. I always watch at least Monday all the way through, but if the week quickly seems boring, uninteresting, or just plain bad, I watch Tuesday on-and-off (usually I'll watch the start of the puzzle, then tune back in about 3-4 minutes later to see the answer and how much was won), and then if things continue, Wednesday I don't watch at all except for the Bonus Round, which I always try to make a priority to watch every day even before I read a recap, because I really don't want to miss a potential big win. When I can't watch at 7 and have to opt for 7:30, I don't even like looking at Twitter for any comments until 8 (we actually lost a couple of followers because we "spoiled" Emil's episode after the 7 airing ). The closing, however, was very funny. Since I missed the show (and I seem to be pretty fortunate), what was it? Pat and Vanna were sitting at one of the tables on the set (behind Pat's podium). .. Pat: You know, it's nice just to be sitting down. Vanna: Isn't it? Pat: I kind of like that. The service is very slow here. We have no salsa. We just have the chips. [corn chips? :shifty:] You know, it occurred to me the last time I talked about margaritas on "Wheel", I started trending on Twitter. (Vanna laughs) Pat: Eh, well...Enjoy. (they raise the prop margarita glasses) Is this real? (sniffs it) Ooh, no. You don't want to drink this. I believe this belongs to Dr. Liebowitz down the hall.

I can't give my opinion about Classic VS Modern because I haven't watched much classic episodes, and also I haven't watched many modern episodes to say that it bores me.
But I think that retiring all the bonus categories was a total error... Without them the game is always the same. They should introduce somewhat similar to our "strange" puzzles like the Panel Desordenado (a puzzle with words in horizontal, vertical in a random order at all the puzzleboard) to make the game less "plain".

They should introduce somewhat similar to our "strange" puzzles like the Panel Desordenado (a puzzle with words in horizontal, vertical in a random order at all the puzzleboard) to make the game less "plain". This. Bonus Categories were my favorite feature of the game because there was so much you could do with them. You could come up with a zillion ideas for bonus categories. With regular categories, there is only so much you can come up with. My theory is that bonus categories/questions were retired because of the fact that over the years they upped the award for getting the bonus right from $500 when they debuted in 1990, to $3,000 starting in September, 1999. Eventually they became too expensive to use regularly, and then too expensive to be used at all with the addition of the Prize Puzzle. The addition of the PP hurt bonus categories because of the fact that the Prize Puzzle was a guaranteed prize, and about 75-80 percent of the time people got the bonus right as well, so essentially you had two elements with guaranteed wins on some shows and it acted as too much of a burden on the budget. One of the two had to bite the dust, and it ended up being the bonus categories. The thing about the show is it adds lots of cool features and wedges to the wheel, like the Surprise, $10,000 Wedge, Jackpot, Mystery and Express which are all really fun and add to the show, but does little to use the full potential of the fun things you could do with puzzles. I like WooWho's blocked puzzle idea, and the crossword puzzle element you mentioned.

I can't take credit for the Blocked Puzzle...I "borrowed" it from the Spanish version.

Yes, the Blocked Puzzle (Panel Bloqueado) was ours!!! But it was retired almost one year ago, so now is yours It was my favorite puzzle, although often the blocked word was very obvious. I have requested to the staff of the show (because I have direct contact with them via DM at Twitter ) to make a return for it, but they said me that it was very hard to revive it. At least I was lucky to play it when I became a contestant. Now seems that the Panel con Pregunta (our "Clue" puzzle) has also been retired (rounds tend to be random, so we don't know if the puzzle has been officially retired except for Panel Desordenado, which they told explicitly that it was an evolution of Panel Cruzado).

Modern is WAY too predictable. Team weeks are even worse now that Prize Puzzle trips are easily in the $10K range. When I think about it, the "total error" may have been making Wheel prize wedges count towards the total score since the nighttime debut, which would lead to the major flaw with Prize Puzzles today. Australia, the UK, and at least the later New Zealand version didn't do that.
