From the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, it's America's game! This is the Soap Opera College Challenge!
(Today is an all-female trio.)
Our student:
Chico Ohama: Senior in University of Hawaii majoring in international business and marketing, from Honolulu, HI
Starting a possible drama against:
From Guiding Light, Fiona Hutchison! (playing for Columbia University in New York City)
From The Young and the Restless, Lauralee Bell! (playing for Northwestern University in Chicago)
The top-dollar value on the Wheel is $1,000. We are playing for cash, and everyone wants at least one puzzle. But who will survive? Here's our first one:
Chico solves HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MARBLES.
A "normal" prize or a crazy one? It's a Chrysler Lebaron 5-speed convertible (labeled CAR) worth $17,483!
We could reach some crazy fortunes with the $2,500 space!
Chico solves TWELVE O'CLOCK AND ALL IS WELL and is surprised by a Bahamas holiday worth $4,110.
But who cares about that right now? SHE HAS JUST WON A CAR!
Two rounds in, and the stars have some catching up to do. The $3,500 is drooling, and we're ready for another round!
It's as clear as possible for Lauralee. Now that she has solved, can she get the $500 bonus?
She has no idea. Chico's turn.
She's just as helpful. Fiona?
Not just a triple stumper, but triple silence! We were looking for Benjamin Franklin. (With a mismatched chyron.)
We weren't really paying attention to time, were we? Pat gives the Wheel a Final Spin, and consonants are worth...$250 a piece. Fiona starts:
Fiona: S (x2) ($500) (and she says SAILING IN THE SANDS)
Lauralee: T (x2) ($500)
Chico: N ($250)
Fiona: M (DUD!)
Lauralee: H (x3) ($1,250)
Chico: D (DUD!)
Fiona: R ($750)
Lauralee: F ($1,500)
Chico: C (x2) ($750)
Chico guesses HE STUCK A FEATHER IN HIS CAR.
Fiona: K ($1,000)
Fiona correctly ends it by solving HE STUCK A FEATHER IN HIS CAP.
We've stuck a bonus inside! For an extra $1,000...
Who did this?
She guesses Thomas Jefferson. Lauralee asks if she can try, but she can't. She correctly says Yankee Doodle but gets no bonus for it.
BONUS ROUND:
An even better performance from the campus! Maybe Chico can take another big prize.
She grabs the W from the holder, and this puzzle has her for the moment:
RSTLNE gives her...
She'll try to fill in a lot with CDMA:
She quickly solves POLITICIAN and has won another big prize...
...the U.S. Savings Bond soon to be $30,000! That brings her up to $55,643!
