But $5,000 is "only a wedge", too!

Yeah, but it's spendable cash you have (unless it's a Final Spin).

I just did a YouTube search of just "wheel of fortune" for today's results. My goodness.
Even worse, at least one said the contestant lost $1,000,000 because of it, and also remarked about IU students not being very well educated. Ironic, much?

OK, I feel like that's just rude (not you, of course). Just b/c one person from Indiana Univ. made some critical mistakes, the whole IU is "not being very well educated"? Not just ironic, mechamind, but total disrespect!

...I've got nothing to say. For the 6,000th nighttime show, this was pathetic. Poll time! Which week was worse, College Week (no offense to Joe, of course) or Girlfriend Getaways? If I may piggyback off your poll: Which milestone episode was worse, #S-6000 (this) or #S-5000 (back in 2009)? (EDIT: Mechamind, this was #S-6000. The week you're talking about is #S-6011 to #S-6015.)

^ I think we'll have to wait until Wheel 6000 airs before we can judge.
(EDIT: The theme week is what I meant.)

Poll time! Which week was worse, College Week (no offense to Joe, of course) or Girlfriend Getaways? If I may piggyback off your poll: Which milestone episode was worse, #S-6000 (this) or #S-5000 (back in 2009)? Well, both were bad, honestly. 5000 because of a hard bonus puzzle which led to a $100K loss, and the fact that not only was it just a normal episode for the most part, but nothing was done to the game even though something involving the $5000 wedge (like maybe having it on for all rounds) was screaming to be done for such a milestone. 6000 was bad because of ridiculously costly and just unreal misplays and all 5 Bonus Rounds ended up being lost (though most of that blame goes to Miss NOONS AND PRINCES). At least Wheel 6000 week is doing everything the 5000th show should have done, and at least even though they're not doing the full celebration on the correct day(s) because of sweeps, they did acknowledge the correct day. TL;DR, 5000 was a joke for minimal celebration, 6000 was a joke solely from gameplay.

TU2: I never would've imagined Wheel using that as a puzzle. Pretty cool to see it being used, though.
R1: Lucky break for Julian after he lost his turn. Whoa, that was such a painful loss. He looked pretty disappointed at the end of the round, too. At least Shelby is able to get on the board, even if it's just the house minimum.
R2: This round was much better. A big round for Julian, too!
R3: Oh man, even more heartache for Julian. He was doing so well, up until he called the C. It seemed like he forgot the category, and he just had no clue what the last word was. I don't think he would've kept spinning if he did know the answer. But on the bright side, congrats to Shelby on winning the Jamaica trip!
R4: I didn't like the timing of the "Only Vowels Left" sound (it sounded right after Laura's turn ended). I thought either Laura or Julian would've gotten the answer; too bad neither of them did. But at least Shelby adds another $1,500 to her total.
BR: I had TOP with the RSTLNE (almost considered TOO), and then I had the whole answer with Julian's picks. The letters just weren't there for him; too bad he couldn't add the 30 grand to his total. You know, for a second, when Pat had the envelope turned away, I thought the big one was inside. Then I realized it wasn't there.
Well, other than R2 (which is clearly the best round of the night), this was a painful episode. Julian could've ended up with way more, if it weren't for his flubs. I'm guessing part of it was nerves. But in the middle of it all, he did do something right, as he made it to the BR, and he did a pretty good job in R2. But still, I felt bad for the mistakes he made during the maingame.

Oh, yeah, another thing...Why is it that whenever they DO sound the OVL beeps in Speed-Up, regardless of dubbing or not, it's not until after the player who guessed the last consonant gets buzzed out? Makes more sense to do it ASAP like in other rounds.

The 6,000th episode and what do we get? The college student who got all the letters in the board but couldn’t say the one word correctly and he had the million dollars lying on his device. And the show ended the week with the shutout. What a letdown. I can see a lot of controversial news about this mispronounce solve during the show “6,000” week. This made me think which is worst: this one or $100,000 loss on the 5,000th episode?

And the College Life puzzles continue to fly right over my head... TPH, you're just not trendy enough for the show! Also, I wonder if this $6000 space that is being used for Wheel 6000 is going to be a permanent feature next season. I can't see them introducing a wedge and not making it a permanent feature on the show. I can't believe Julian won. I hate to say it, but it's a little unsettling that he did win. There were more competent players on the panel that night that should've made it to the bonus round. That R1 mis-solve was just painful, I wouldn't be surprised if that went viral, it's just begging for it. Oh, and #OnTheSpotDiceSpin, we need to make this trend on twitter, people. I am happy they celebrated the milestone though, hopefully this will ease the attitude of the show being afraid to admit that the show Pre-2000 actually existed.

The $6,000 wedge is not going to be permanent. It's not styled like a traditional cash wedge. It was made only for that week. It simply says "WHEEL $6000" at the top and looks similar to the 25 Wedge. They probably didn't want to spend money making a sparkly, glitzy wedge to use only for 5 episodes and then likely never return.

At least it was exciting to watch. That's all I can say, since this looks to be S31's AGONY OF DEFEAT episode. On the positive side, there was no money lost to Bankrupt tonight, and the puzzle selection wasn't bad since I could solve all of them, including the Bonus Round. This isn't like Wednesday were all we got was $900, one 1/2 car hit and a Gift Tag which was sort of boring to watch. Tonight we had three TDV hits, the MDW picked up, the prize picked up, and the car picked up! There's always the agony of the player "bankrupting" another thanks to missolves, and that's what Shelby did tonight. But it's a shame she didn't spin just to get some money since that's what you need to make the bonus round. You guys are making out this episode as being much worse than it is. The contestants weren't exactly dull, its just a big case of nerves getting to Julian, who is likely still in his late teens which can bring about incredible nervous tension. And great job for honoring the 6,000th episode!

Agree with pannoni. Julian was good but again, his nerves got the best of him.

Re: NMC sound in speed-up. They are probably being lazy and it's technically wrong. But -
I think A) they assume it will be solved 95% of the time, B) contestants won't be able to use the NMC help (if they need it) in the 3 seconds 95% of the time. So I think it's actually pretty safe. At least it's getting rung at all.

I think it makes sense to do it after the turn is over. You're asked to immediately solve after calling a letter anyway. During "regular" rounds, the rule is simply to stop searching for consonants.

Hey, one media outlet actually described the MDW's effect accurately! With all that being said...I wonder if it was a case of him being stupidly lucky or the girls being stupidly unlucky. The girls were clearly the better players...it's just that Julian was hogging the wheel to the point where, after he bungles the puzzle, doesn't give the girls much of an opportunity to score, because he's taken up all the scoring opportunities. And despite all his terrible play...HE STILL WINS! It's actually a pretty brilliant strategy, if you think about it...but that's definitely NOT how I would've played it! <sajak> Sometimes this game doesn't make any sense. </sajak>
