That's how Australia did theirs, but there's also another aspect of Aussie Speed-Ups that I thought I'd bring up for jmo.
You were saying, jmo, that prizes should be awarded to those who solved the puzzle. On Australia's version, if the host spun up a Prize (whether it'd be the Bonus or the Surprised), it was awarded to the contestant who chose the Speed-Up's first correct letter. On top of that, the value underneath was also awarded.
Hopefully, we'll follow suit soon with that.

It's always been right at Pat, that isn't going to change.

Wheel is taking questions on their social media pages to ask Pat and/or Vanna.
Got a question but no social media page? Ask it here followed by your first name (or nickname) and last initial and we'll submit it on your behalf.

Keep dreaming on that one. Why would they change something so insignificant in most cases after it being the same for almost 40 years.

Just so you know, your phrasing misled me into believing that this was in Spain. It's actually in California. Edited to add: I missed the new page, so... Wheel is taking questions on their social media pages to ask Pat and/or Vanna. Got a question but no social media page? Ask it here followed by your first name (or nickname) and last initial and we'll submit it on your behalf. ...here's my question for that: Has any consideration been given lately to a permanent four-digit wedge besides top dollar? If so, what's come out of it? —Jeffrey H.

Well, if I had something to ask them on Twitter, here's what I'd say, much to the expectation of everyone here. [chuckles]
"I know you brought $650 back as a value a couple years ago, as that hadn't been seen on the Wheel since 1979. I'm looking forward to seeing $750 and $850 back on the Wheel soon, as they haven't been seen since 1996 and 1979 respectively. I'm also looking forward to seeing $950 as a playing value on the Wheel at some point as that was never a playable value at all."

That's my tidbit, please.

^ With what happened in September 1996, we can only keep dreaming. ...Did I miss something other than a layout change then? If they don't want to go back to the 2½-template format for the wheel itself, fine, but the fact that some values are retired does not directly have anything to do with my question.

^ If they didn't add four-digit wedges then (permanent or add-on besides the sparkling ones), I don't think they're even going to consider it now. Like many others though, I wish they would just do it.

I like the fact that contestants get $1000 for finding the same letter in the puzzle!

Like many others though, I wish they would just do it. But they brought back $650 despite having been retired in the Woolery days, and rounds 2 and 3 have $1,000, not otherwise seen since 2000, on the Mystery and Express wedges respectively. Prices have also gone up about 50% since 1996 (though, of course, that hasn't stopped them from raising the price of vowels from $250, which inflation-wise is less than a quarter of what it should be).

All right let's shorten it then.
-
I see you brought $650 back a couple years ago. Will you also bring back $750, $850, and $950 sometime?
-
I checked the character count. It should be about a hundred.

^ The vowel price or the Final Spin always being determined by the red arrow? The Final Spin bit. Each country that's aired the show has their own way about it. Ours and most other countries does it by the first position, some do it by the current players turn but the one unique change to that is Britain's version. They've seemed to do it at the yellow position from all the videos I've seen.

I've always figured the Final Spin always being determined by the red arrow made sense, since that's the one closest to the host. There's no reason to change it; it would just be change for the sake of change and confuse long-time viewers.

I agree with what you said, williamporygon. It's kind of funny because back in the mid-90s, there was an arrow in front of Mr. Bongiorno on Italy's version. Now there was another issue (along with $750, $850 and $950) that I think should be addressed via Wheel's Twitter page, and this comes straight from the 11 M's on the Mystery Wedge. You know that in order to look under the Mystery Wedge you have to give back what you got for the letters, even if it was $10,000? Get rid of that rule. If it's a Bankrupt, well duh, but if it's the $10,000, let the player keep the money. After all you don't have to do that in order to get a ticket to hop on the Express. Oh, and awarding $500 for each letter on the Million Dollar wedge? Every other piece of liftable material is worth that. Why shouldn't the Million Dollar Wedge be, besides making it harder to keep it by not letting the player buy vowels? So yeah, those are the three things I want at this point. Bring back $750, $850, and (not or, people!) $950 Not having to give back the $1000 per letter to look under the Mystery Wedge Giving $500 on the Million Dollar Wedge If Jackpot somehow gets brought back, everyone knows awful well that's a bonus.

I just care about the $1,000 and $1,500 that got on the version of my question that ended up on Twitter, but other values back ($750 and $2,000 come to mind) would be nice, too. I'm not as gung-ho about $850 or $950 (though I have them in my off-site wheels, as you know) and I don't foresee $X25 or $X75 coming back.

Oh, and awarding $500 for each letter on the Million Dollar wedge? Every other piece of liftable material is worth that. Why shouldn't the Million Dollar Wedge be, besides making it harder to keep it by not letting the player buy vowels? You just answered your own question. Since vowels are such a big help, they don't want people who hit the MDW early on going on buying sprees to help them secure the wedge without having to take another spin. It's probably the same reason why they don't make the Mystery $10K spendable (or because that used to be an actual prize). Lots of times, people are in the "forced spin" pickle after picking up the MDW or Mystery $10K with no money and then either hit a penalty or call a wrong consonant.
