Here is a hopefully satirical video of some random guy getting drunk off a gallon of chocolate milk ranting about Giant Psychedelic Pizza Wheel of Dirt Fortune, a show that he is openly ashamed of watching and says is not socially acceptable to watch before age 60, yet he is a proud(?) member of the Wheel Watchers Club.
The comments get better as the video progresses. The part about the Million Dollar Wedge is hilarious. :lol:

Well, there could be an issue with that. I'll give you an example. I'm a ship buff, and although the word "the" is usually said before a ship's name in a sentence ("The Titanic hit an iceberg and sank."), is the word "the" on the ship's hull? No.
We do refer it as "The" Buy A Vowel Boards, but I think we can leave the word "the" out.
Anyway, most of what this guy had to say I hardly believe, but if that's how he feels, fine. At least he didn't mention us. When he said "club," I was worried he meant us.

^ Titanic is the name of an object though, so you can say The Titanic. 'Wheel Of Fortune', while it does reference an object, is a title that represents an idea (idea being a game show). Saying 'The Wheel Of Fortune' would only make sense if you are talking about the wheel itself. 'The' can be added to anything that is an object. Titanic is an object. The Wheel (of fortune) is an object. 'Wheel Of Fortune' is not. Mind you, this is just a little pet peeve of mine. Also, I'm not a grammar teacher |

Well, despite "The" Wheel of Fortune not being an object, it's back to Foreign Wheel talk. I know many European versions, along with Mexico, Canada, Latin America, and South American countries constantly use the word "The" before the title. Here are some examples.
Spanish-speaking versions: La Rueda/Ruleta de la Fortuna/Suerte
France: La Roue de la Fortune (La Roue Chanceuse in Canada)
Italy: La Ruota della Fortuna (apparently "della" means "of the")
Belgium & Holland: Het Rad der/van Fortuin (There were many times, however were "het" wasn't used)
Portugal: A Roda da Sorte
So at least France, Italy, and the Spanish-speaking versions officially know it as "The Wheel of the Fortune/Luck") |
