...why doesn't Pat just say, "Pick four consonants and one vowel," instead of having the player do the normal 3 + 1 and then, "Because you have the Wild Card..." Just wondering.

I wondered that, too back in 2006. Probably because CCCVC emphasizes the Wild Card's presence more.

Shouldn't the wild card randomly reveal a letter in the puzzle just in case all the three consonants and vowel are duds?

I know this is kind off-topic about the thread but connected to Wild Card: I wonder if they could make the Wild Card's effect also apply in the Final Spin, like if you still can't solve the puzzle, give it to Pat so that you could have an extra turn.

That would potentially be overpowered, and murky - could you missolve any number of times before using the WC?

I doubt they would allow a WC use before any solve attempt. Anyway, yes, this rule, while interesting, can be too overpowering. Imagine using it on a $6,000 Speed-Up (Also imagine Free Spin or Double Play being usable in Speed-Ups). Contestants have attempted to use it in Speed-Up, however.

Well, you could say they could only use it if they have called a good consonant, then make it AFTER a solve attempt. The beauty of it though is that if they can't solve, they might have wasted it because they have to wait their turn again to bank the winnings. Also makes the Wild Card a little bit helpful if the player won't able to reach the BR anyway...

I think the current rules of the card are fine. Sorry I haven't been on in a little over a year, just been busy with school and stuff.
