To address the recent rumors of Jeopardy! adding "sudden death" clues to avoid ties... I have learned from a Sony source close to Buy a Vowel Boards that while this is a rule on Sports Jeopardy!, it is not in place on the regular Jeopardy!... yet. There have been talks about such a rule at the show, but nothing has been confirmed yet. Its been confirmed. I've heard from several players on upcoming shows now that the rule was put in place mid-October, after the TOC. jboard.tv/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2475

From said thread... I should do this as a poll, I guess, but I'm just going to throw it out here. If someone else wants to create the poll, feel free. Do people think that the reason for this change is: A. The show wants to give away less money B. The show wants to give more players the opportunity to appear on the show C. Allowing tied leaders to advance gives the appearance that there might be collusion Based on Jess' dissection of Sony's profit and expenses, I'm going with A, although I'm betting (for the tie?) they'll try to spin it as B and possibly C. I like opusthepenguin's suggestion for handling ties on Page 3 -- the tied players become co-champs, but any money "won" is held off until someone definitively wins a game. This would never happen, but I've been thinking of how you could work a Prisoner's Dilemma scenario into this. [Explanation of how such a thing would work.] Yeah, no, the Prisoner's Dilemma shouldn't be in any game show, especially Jeopardy! Was the straw that broke the camel's back not too many ties but this particular tie that involved FJ wagers so clearly irrational (by both players) that it raises the specter of collusion in a way that The Final Wager/Arthur Chu-style betting-for-the-tie didn't? (referencing the game of October 30, 2014) Hm...nah, I still think it's budget.

Assuming there's a new player (as three-way ties have happened before), per said poster here the tied players would only receive the consolation cash for however many days they kept tying (presumably, $2,000 each for Days 1/2/etc. and $2,000 or $1,000 {depending on the scores} for the day the new player won).

I don't think it's going to matter to me either way how ties are settled on Jeopardy. It's a relatively rare occurrence anyway. Now, granted, it's a little more work for the writers...
