Not necessarily your favorite, but the one that would be the best to the show as a whole to bring back?
I might say Clue, but I'm not certain.

Clue, Where Are We?, and the like. Rock On! needs to come back, too.

Slang, if only because it seems to fit with how Harry's been doing the puzzles. /likes Bryce's suggestion more

Or What Are We Making? ... That category was only used ONCE (10/23/07).

Well, I think the bonus categories, with the obvious exception of Megaword, should return. In fact, out of all the retired categories, I'll list the ones that I believe should NOT make a return and mention why they shouldn't.
Megaword (mentioned above; it was time-consuming) People (the magazine category; it's pointless) Foreign Word/Phrase (Although I like these categories, it could be time-consuming, especially if it was a word one never never even heard of) Slang (time-consuming due to bad grammar) The "Intentional One-Shot Categories" (pointless to have them again considering the decade categories as well as Title) Rock On! (This is Charlie's category; Artist/Song is good enough as both categories are really the same thing)
As for most the other hybrid categories, they should make a return. Composer/Song is a little iffy for me because technically an artist is different from a composer, but at the same time, how many composer's works without numbers exist? So I'm probably leaning toward that not returning.

I'm sure that all of us agree that it's very necessary to bring back the bonus categories. In fact, I would introduce some kind of bonus category to use it exclusively in R3: if you don't answer correctly, you don't win the trip. And I don't think it would happen: most of the trips are sponsored...

I think Book & Author, Clue, Fill in the Number, and Slogan should return. This would add some variety to the categories so we don't have some of the categories on every single episode.
I think the bonus categories should return. I have no idea why the show got rid of them in the first place.

Or What Are We Making? ... That category was only used ONCE (10/23/07). If it hasn't made a second appearance in eight years...shouldn't that tell you that it Just Didn't Work? I'd be a fan of Book & Author coming back--didn't realize it was even retired in the first place. Star and Role is one we haven't seen in a while--surely that would have some place on the show now more than ever? Bonus categories...ehh, I like 'em, but I can see why they don't use them anymore, considering the Prize Puzzle is 1) a guaranteed bonus and 2) probably saves more time--if the contestant doesn't know the bonus answer, it becomes a giant waste of time. But that's a debate for another thread.

Then riddle me this, genius, how come it hasn't had a second appearance in eight years when other food weeks have cropped up? As I recall, New Orleans had a Fabulous Food week a few years ago, did it not?
Getting back on-topic...count me among the folks who'd love to see the current crop of contestants struggle with Megaword.

The show was moving away from using "bonus" categories at the time, so it was less "this doesn't work" and more "we need to save money".

Isn't Title/Author a current category (although I don't remember seeing it in this season)? It can work perfectly for this purpose, because an "author" is often refered to a book.

Fill in the Blank/Number, Clue, Where are We?, Who is it?, and Headline. Those usually resulted in very large puzzles.

Headline isn't retired, it's just hardly ever used anymore because Wheel doesn't pay attention to what goes on in the world anymore, it seems. That, or they just don't want to use a long puzzle if it means not being able to add any adjectives to it. I'd love for Fictional Place to be its own category again. I get changing Fictional Character to Character, but it's pretty jarring to have fictional places be under Place now. Nickname would be nice to see again, even though it would probably be rarely used. Show/Song I wish was used more often, especially maybe during New York weeks to fit with a Broadway theme. All of the trivia categories except Megaword. I especially loved Fill in the Blank and Number. However, as these categories reached their last few years of use, it was obvious that they tried to expand the clues as much as possible, especially on Who Is It?; instead of just "OUR CURRENT PRESIDENT", it would be something like "HE IS THE CURRENT PRESIDENT OF OUR COUNTRY". Clue was also very prone to be written like a Jeopardy! answer, often containing the word "THIS" or "IT". A typical 90s Clue puzzle would simply be "ROAD RUNNER'S FAMOUS CALL" as opposed to "IT'S THE FAMOUS CARTOON CALL OF THE ROAD RUNNER". It was painfully obvious they just wanted a bit of the Jeopardy! element in Wheel, although I loved seeing trivia in Wheel. These days, a daily trivia bonus could be a good replacement for the Prize Puzzle.

As notorious as Megaword was, I'd still have a place for it, if only to be the one we know is bad but would like to try and survive anyway. Perhaps I'm just a MASOCHIST. (I want my $3,000 bonus now! )

If they bring back Megaword, they need to go the distance and go all the way to Supermegaword. Now THAT would be entertaining television right there, folks.
