If you appeared on either Wheel or Jeopardy! and don't have a copy of your show - or you are a history buff who just wants to see old episodes - you may be in luck as long as you have deep pockets. Recently revealed emails from producer Harry Friedman indicate that the show has been digitizing episodes. Not just a few, but they have made the lofty goal of doing every single one. They are currently missing less than 1% of all episodes made of both shows. The emails indicate that they are planning on selling them to companies and individuals from between $120-$150 per DVD. Well, they only seem to be syndicated episodes based on what I'm reading. Nonetheless, if he's going to do that, it looks like more Woolery episodes may be in reach than ever should he decide to do the same for them as well. I don't know if he will, but it certainly gives me a lot of hope. Anyway, thanks for letting us know about this, Flerbert419.

I know this is gonna sound stupid because I already know the answer (they won't make as much money as they would with this scheme), but why couldn't they just put the episodes up on Crackle? Wait, does Crackle have for-pay subscriptions? That might be another reason.

I really wish they WOULD do something on Crackle involving Wheel. It's not really fair that they only did it with Jeopardy!. Heck, they even broadcasted a week of vintage Jeopardy! nationally during one summer week a few years ago, although this was arguably just the J! version of the Merv Griffin tribute marathon of Wheel on GSN.

From said email, back in July 2014... If someone from Sony is reading this: get in touch with whoever's digitizing these and put a list of the missing shows online, perhaps offering a reward if someone manages to find one of the missing episodes. It's worked for other shows over the years, so you never know. I wonder what they mean by "turning up in some strange places", though. Could this have something to do with YouTube?

Probably not YouTube. I doubt Harry would want some old VHS recording from GSN. He probably meant that the reels were found in vaults for other shows or just random other storage places at Sony. Or maybe some TV stations had some old episodes sitting around.

Thinking over it, the missing episodes might be in the earlier seasons, possibly even the ones GSN skipped entirely. The Ohio State Fair week of Wheel from '83 also comes to mind (even though they weren't "official" episodes), as do the Trebek Jeopardy! pilots (neither of which are in good shape among traders). Probably not YouTube. I doubt Harry would want some old VHS recording from GSN. My mind was more on contestants who recorded their appearances from the original (or repeat) broadcasts and put them online. Then again, without knowing which 126 episodes are missing, it's all speculation on my end. (It's pretty clear Harry's not talking about 1975-85 Wheel/Fleming Jeopardy!, in any case.) He probably meant that the reels were found in vaults for other shows or just random other storage places at Sony. Or maybe some TV stations had some old episodes sitting around. Pretty likely, yeah. I know WCBS had the early-70s Joker's Wild and Spin-Off sitting in its archives for years until they were found in 2000.

*drops on knees* Please have 1/6/75... please have 1/6/75... please have 1/6/75...
But it is interesting that the numbers imply most if not all of daytime Wheel still exists.

Hopefully they have season 21...I haven't recapped any of that season's episodes yet.

I had a feeling something like this might happen.
Hopefully a few members on this board get their hands on some older episodes that have never been circulated or otherwise.

The 13,000 figure refers to both Wheel and Jeopardy!, the latter recently surpassing 7,000 syndicated shows. Really doubt this includes the Woolery episodes of daytime, if any daytime at all.

And since syndicated Wheel has over 6,000 episodes itself, I feel pretty safe in saying yeah, no, they're not including daytime/Sidoni Wheel or Fleming/spinoff Jeopardy! in that "over 13,000" figure.
Even then, I think the E! True Hollywood Story on Wheel has shown that the 1975 premiere does still exist, as does Susan's last show from 1982 (and I have reason to suspect at least the latter is from her personal collection).
