^ No. Since you earned that thousand, there's no need for the "pity thousand."

But if you do solve the $1,000 toss-up and nothing else [...] because you'd get $1,000 anyway and you actually earned that first $1,000 for solving a puzzle. Make sense to anyone else? Yes, I've had this thought numerous times and it doesn't make any sense for the first toss up to be $1,000 since the minimum at anything for singles is $1,000. It is even worse in teams since that minimum is $2,000 instead. You get nothing out of solving the first toss up other than being interviewed first. You get nothing if you solve a puzzle below the minimal amount. If any contestant can solve at least one puzzle (even if the puzzle just has one letter left), they should be able to get more than the minimum for not being able to solve any (i.e. the "pity thousand"). I'd raise the first Toss Up and any puzzle minimum to $1,500 and when a contestant is unable to solve any puzzle, then give them the $1,000 minimum.

If a player ends the game with $1,000 that they earned, we've taken to calling that the "false dignity thousand".
Still, three Toss-Ups are too much; remove the second, raise the first to $1,500, and you're able to go straight from interviewing the players to Jim describing the Wheel Prize. On the other hand, that means a better chance of action in Round 4.

Looks like Wheel decided to make a layout change after all. Can you spot it? Shouldn't be hard. Note that this change was NOT present on the July 16 or 17 tapings, so there will be two weeks early in the season (not in order) with the "old" layout. Any changes outside of what's pictured here, if any, are currently unknown. Stay tuned.

Well, I wouldn't get too disappointed just yet. They may be experimenting. So I'm just going to sit back, be patient, and see what other value changes they may have for other weeks.

I will seriously laugh (and cry) if this is the only change for no reason just to save a little pocket money.

Replacing $800 with $650? Okay... so now, assuming the $900 wedges just out of shot on either side stayed the same, we now have a continuous 9-wedge span - over a third of the wheel - with no values over $700. Not really good to look at, even if several of them have cardboard on them at various points (the gift tag and MDW for all three main rounds, one car tag and one Mystery wedge at specific times).
If there are no other changes to the rest of the wheel (which would be kinda dumb to just change one wedge), that would leave only five wedges over $700 on the wheel (the top dollar, three 900s, and the other remaining 800). That would be less than the total number of just the $500 spots on the wheel, which is currently six (even if all six house cardboard at various points). I hope they realize that the lack of diversity on the wheel is only going to do bad things for the game as well as for the enjoyment factor.

When trying to make a list of the CURRET categories, I came up with these... Am I missing any? Besides Where Are We Going?, which has yet to be used, you forgot about... The 70's/80's/90's TV Quote Family College Life Also, these haven't been used in quite a while, but aren't confirmed to be retired yet, and all are on the Season 31 category list... Headline Husband & Wife Classic TV Best Seller(s) Rock On! The Wheel of Fortune History Wiki says that Best Seller(s) was retired. Family was last used November 20, 2013 (THE BALDWIN BROTHERS). Headline was last used September 23, 2013 (WILLIAM AND KATE HAVE BABY BOY, I presume). Classic TV was last used January 9. 2013 (although used in a Twitter Toss-Up back on February 23). Brian

Re: layout change
At that rate they might as well make everything $650...

I know we haven't seen the other side of the wheel yet but I really don't like that orange $650. If all the other wedges stay the same, we now had 3 $650 wedges. I don't like that at all. We need that orange $800 back!
Side note: I thought the $600/$550/$500 cluster looked bad, now we have $700/$600/$650. This just looks odd.
brianhenke, thanks for the category info. I think it's safe to say that Classic TV, Headline, & Family have been retired since they haven't been used since 2013. I could be wrong but I also think we can scrap the decade categories.

Three $650 wedges? And I asked last season if they have used ever the same $X50 wedge in one layout (apart from when the minimum was $250)... I seriously hope that they change one of the other $650s. The layout would be ridiculous if they mantain the three $900 and they retire this $800 to leave only one.
Of course, I'm willing to know the rest of the layout of the Wheel. Expecting not to be as ridiculous as La Ruleta's current layout...

I was just curious and started looking at previous season wheel configurations. I realized there are only 3 wedges that are the same from season 29 to today.
Red $800 Green $500 Pink $900
I seriously hope they don't change the red $800. That wedge has been a staple on the show for a long time and I don't want it to go anywhere anytime soon.
Maybe they'll change the pink $900 to $800 and change the pink $650 to $750 to balance the wheel back out. If they insist on changing the orange $800, they should've changed it to $750. 3 $650 wedges is just ridiculous.

The layout would be ridiculous if they mantain the three $900 and they retire this $800 to leave only one. They actually had two $900 wedges, one $800, and one $700 for 13 years (1986-1999), although $900 per letter meant a whole lot more back then. They also somehow omitted $700 completely from the 2011-12 layout. Finally, what I think can be rooted to making the 1996 "one-template" with a yellow-orange $300 instead of a Bankrupt (with a $300 on top of that for Round 1), we have technically had more than two Bankrupt spaces since September 2008.

If this is a permanent change, that's going to look really odd when we get to the sixth episodes all the way in December and see an episode with the orange $800 on the wheel.
Although, it is nice to see $650 getting some love after being neglected for so long.

^Yes, it is nice to see $650 on the wheel but NOT 3 wedges. That's excessive for any $X50 amount.
Maybe this is just a nasty trick for Halloween week although I doubt it and the wedge is probably permanent now. I hope we can see the rest of the wheel soon to see if there are more changes.

First, the orange wedge used to be $250, then $800, now $650. I'm afraid to see how this change will go but then again, we haven't seen the whole wheel yet.

Wow---the more and more I look at that orange $650, it's making me very angry. Things like this shouldn't make me angry but it just doesn't look right. $600 and $650 shouldn't be next to each other just like $500 and $550 shouldn't be...it looks just plain ODD.

Here's a breakdown of the current wheel amounts:
6 - $500 1 - $550 2 - $600 3 - $650 3 - $700 1 - $800 3 - $900
This is crazy.
