Hello, One and All ! I am Jim Hatten. I'm 30 years old and I'm a TV Game Show Junkie. I've always enjoyed watching TV Game Shows since I was a little boy (didn't we all?) w/ my Grandpa. My all-time favorite Game Shows are "Wheel of Fortune" (of course) and "The Price is Right" (Bob Barker/Tom Kennedy/Dennis James eras) and I also enjoy watching "Let's Make a Deal", "Card Sharks", "Classic Concentration", "Deal or No Deal", "Hollywood Squares", and "High Rollers".
I enjoy collecting all kinds of Game Show memorabilia, ranging frm Board Games to Video Games to Books (including Vanna's book "Vanna Speaks" and Susan Stafford's "Stop The Wheel I Want to Get Off") and my collection keeps on growing !
I'm also an artist, I enjoy drawing/sketching as well as writing fun creative stories related to my artwork, which has been a hobby of mine since I was a kid. I especially enjoy drawing Game Show-related artwork. The idea came to me after going to different sites and YouTube videos where PPL has showcased their love and appreciation for their favorite TV Game Shows and personalities and I've always loved and admired their work and that's where my inspiration came frm. While I wish I could make my very own homemade "WOF" wheel and Puzzle Board, the best way I can showcase my love and appreciation for Game Shows is thru drawing/sketching. I've done lots of "WOF"-related artwork w/ my own creative twists !
I've also had dreams about becoming a contestant on a Game Show and I've come awfully close to turning that dream into a reality. I tried out for "Price is Right" and I still have a couple tickets to a taping back in 2005 (for me and my BFF of 12 1/2 years, Matt), we didn't get to go but I've kept them as a souvenir. When I said I came awfully close to turning my dream of being a contestant on a Game Show into a reality, it's true and believe it or not, it was "Wheel of Fortune" !!!
My BFF came along w/ me to the auditions and supported me, I tried to convince him to audition w/ me ("Best Friends Week") but he didn't want to. I made it all the way to the final auditions but unfortunately I never got the call inviting me to appear as a contestant on the show in the Sony Studios or at some remote location. It hurt and I cried but I had to move on, I wanted to do it for my Gramps, I wanted to make him proud but I think he'd be proud knowing that I made it as far as I did trying out for "WOF". I wish the show still had the returning champions, because if I actually DID get on and won the main game, win or lose the Bonus Round, I'd want to play again !

Welcome! My favorite game shows are Wheel and Price too! Did you ever have to pick one over the other? I did once growing up when Daytime Wheel moved to a time slot that conflicted with the second half of Barker's Price. I ended up deciding to watch Price over Wheel, and it was a painful decision for me.

Thank U, genius2751 and eybyon, I'm very happy to be part of the Buy a Vowel Board Family
Luckily for me, I didn't have to pick either the then-Daytime "WOF" or "TPiR" because my Grandpa used to have TWO TVs in his den (no joke), he would always close the door behind him because he didn't like being disturbed when all the game shows would be on. He'd have "TPiR" on one TV and the daytime "WOF" on the other one, they both used to come on at the same time which was 11am and when "WOF" went off, he'd turn that TV off and continue on w/ "TPiR", my Gramps was a genius !

Hey Jim! I have always had game show dreams myself for as long as I can remember. And I didn't make it after my first final audition a few years ago either but I was very proud to get that far and you should be too. I'm sure your gramps would be proud with how well you did just by getting to the callbacks. Like I said, I didn't get the letter after my first final audition but I did after my second, so keep trying and just improve on what you think maybe you could have done better the first time. I'm sure a lot of it has less to do with not being good enough and more about them looking for something maybe a little different. Just keep at it if that's your dream because the only failed dreams are the ones that we never never go for!

Welcome to the boards, Jim! I too have had dreams of being a contestant on ANY game show. Most likely WOF and TPIR. As I mentioned in another thread earlier, I went to see TPIR twice back in 2003, in attempt to being called on down to contestants' row. Sadly, I remained in the audience in both tapings. I at least got Bob Barker's autograph on the back of my shirt, which I still have at home someplace. Although I didn't make it on down, it was still a fun experience.

Hi, wheelgenius ! That's AWESOME, you got to see "TPiR" in person twice and THE legendary Bob Barker signed the back of your shirt, that's really cool !
I wanted to go out there so badly and was looking forward to it, my BFF & I, but didn't get the opportunity to go, but I still have the tickets though (I taped them in Bob's "Priceless Memories" Book), so it's something....
