Yesterday a Twitter friend of mine was notified by email that he had been selected to audition in Philadelphia in a few weeks. This reminded me of something very peculiar that happened to me a decade or so ago.
I received an email then stating that I had been selected for an audition they were going to hold in Houston. As a former contestant, I was in shock. Had Wheel changed its rules to allow for contestants to play the game more than once? Or perhaps they recognized there were issues with my game and decided to give me another chance to spin the iconic wheel?
I gave the contestant line a call and they connected me with Jackie Lamatis, whom I hadn't spoken with since my game in 1998. The good news was she actually remembered me. The bad news was she said the invite was sent to me in error and what probably happened was that I had applied online and their system at the time didn't filter out those who had already played. On the bright side, she did let me transfer my audition invite to a friend, and he ended up making it all the way to the end but sadly didn't get a callback.
Has this sort of thing happened to anyone else?

What were the issues with your game?

^ Thanks for asking! They were:
1. They put me in the same group as a work colleague who also happened to be a close friend of my supervisor at the time. We both thought such a close association went against the rules we had just read. So we raised it as an issue, but were both told that it was OK.
2. In the R4 Speed-Up, my colleague solved the puzzle (and took over the lead from the other player and won the game) by pronouncing the word OIL such that some heard her say ALL instead. Personally I thought it sounded more like OIL (still do), but I was surprised how many people I talked to afterwards thought differently.
3. The biggest issue though was my not being able to see the scoreboard and used letter board monitors the entire game due to a bright light above them shining directly into my face. I discovered this early on and alerted the staff attending to us between rounds multiple times, but it did not appear that anything had been done to rectify the situation. In hindsight, I should've said something to Pat (he was kind of far from me though as I was in the blue position) or raised an objection right after the taping. I was just too excited at the time to think of it.
