Hey everyone! Does anyone on here have any input on what happens when you respond "no" to your tape date email? How long did you have to wait to get a new tape date? Were the CC's understanding of your situation? Do you regret not taking the first tape date opportunity?
I just got the email tonight for a taping on December 18th, but life is really hectic right now. I have until tomorrow to decide what to do, but I was hoping for some advice! Thanks in advance!

Well, you know I can't speak to this specific situation personally, but I'll reiterate what's written in the letter you already know: "Likewise, if an emergency comes up, call can cancel; you don't want to be spinning the wheel when you're worried about something more important." If it were me, I'd take the opportunity now (with traveler's insurance...yeah, sorry totally copying levesp08's advice from elsewhere ) because you never know what life is going to throw at you later. Since it's so close to the holidays, you may not be able to make the big vacation that you wanted, but there are always other times for that! With that said, I'm sure the CC's are very understanding, but I have no empirical evidence for this. Very interested to hear what other past contestants have to say that had a similar situation. Best of luck Joanna! (p.s. I am totally selfishly rooting for you to take this spot because I don't want to be called now because school )

Did not have it happen at my taping, but they did emphasize to us in the couple weeks before taping that if we had a serious conflict with school or other issues, that we could reschedule; didn't give a specific date, but that we would be put back in the pool and kept in consideration.
They also did specifically ask in the green room on taping day if we were all feeling ok and comfortable enough to play the game (outside of regular nerves) and to speak up at that point if we weren't or forever hold our peace. (IIRC Gary or Jackie asked Erin, Stacy, and I once more if we were ok to tape when at our podiums right before taping started). They would've had no problem rescheduling us and letting one of the alternates play that day. I don't recall them directly saying they've had it happen, but I do remember them hinting (or at least expressed a desire to avoid a situation) of someone taping, then saying they weren't feeling well, etc. after a not so great outcome trying to get a mulligan.
An anecdotal piece that might better answer your question: I can't remember if it was on this site or the WoF Featured Contestant Blog or another site where I read of a woman who caught a bad case of the flu a few days before taping that put her in the hospital. She called the CCs and they assured her that they understood and they would call her back again soon. Sure enough, a short time later (I don't remember if it was a few weeks or couple months) she got called back to tape for a different show.

kevin , copying good advice is totally acceptable haha But truly, I remember the CC's looking me right in the eye before going on the set and saying that if I didn't feel 100% , it is ok to tell them. They are more than understanding no matter what the reason is. There really is no wrong choice. But, my main concern was ... what if they call me for my second tape date and it's an even worse time?! Life hates plans lol.

Thank you all for the advice! I decided to go for it, and take the opportunity now. I did purchase insurance for the trip, so at least I have a way out in case things get worse before then. But, fingers crossed that everything goes as planned! I'm so excited!

Best of luck, atlantagirl! I'm sure you will do great, and worse case scenario, if you do have to cancel, from what I've read and heard, the coordinators will be more than happy to accommodate you. That is so cool!

But, my main concern was ... what if they call me for my second tape date and it's an even worse time?! That was my concern as well! I found out I was chosen in the same e-mail they told me the tape date, so it was kind of overwhelming at first (especially considering I'm on the exact opposite coast!). I would've liked to postpone my tape date but, on the other hand, who knew how long that might've been? A month? A year? I definitely didn't want to take that chance. Plus, since they always give about two week's notice, there's never really any extra "planning" time, no matter if you postponed it or not.

I know this thread has been "dead" for over a month, but I'm hoping the moderators will forgive me...
I was the OP, and I had really been stressing out about what would have happened if I had postponed my tape date. There wasn't a whole lot of information about this, and I ended up going to my scheduled taping in fear of the consequences otherwise.
But, in case anyone else is in this predicament, I want you to fear not; there were at least three people in my taping group who had postponed their original tape date. All of them said that it hadn't been any issue at all with the CC's, and all three contestants were called back within two months for their new date. None of them regretted postponing, and things seemed to work out for the best.
...just wanted to help anyone who may potentially search the threads for this subject in the future!
