How the puzzle board works

This may just be me, but did the chase lighting change slightly from the boards debut to season 15? I was watching an episode from May 1997 and then one from late 1997 (December maybe), and the chase lights looked a bit different. I saw a noticeable difference on a late 2002, early 2003 episode, as well. Again, it could just be my eyes playing tricks on me.
