Here's another picture posted yesterday. Looks like this funky layout is still on the set, although you can clearly see that it's just sitting on top of the usual layout.

So the mystery of this bizarre layout was finally revealed (thanks, eybyon for bringing it to our attention). This was made specifically for the Amazon Prime series "Transparent". The episode "The Open Road" (season 3, episode 6) has a scene where Ali is at the dentist under laughing gas and there is a bizarre dream sequence that takes place on the Wheel set. It features this layout and several puzzles significant to Ali flashed on the board, including "EIGHTEEN THIRTY-SIX SEVENTY-TWO". I don't watch the show, but apparently those numbers are significant to her. You really need to watch the show in order to get what's going on. Oh, and the sequence also features snippets of the 1983 theme. For anyone who has Amazon Prime and can watch it, the scene starts at the 19:59 mark.

Oh, and the sequence also features snippets of the 1983 theme. I find it amusing that even sixteen years later, people still associate "Changing Keys" with Wheel.

So I'm skimming through the season right now just to understand more of the plot and the Wheel references actually happen earlier. In the third season's second episode ("When the Battle is Over"), Ali peers through a hospital curtain and notices Wheel on a TV. The "episode" is a Season 6 episode with the Wheel substituted with the 1800/3600/7200 Wheel (despite the huge generation gap). Almost as bizarre as Ali's dream, really. Funny enough, although this episode doesn't circulate amongst traders, I had most of this episode on tape from a GSN rerun, but I lost the tape over a decade ago. I definitely remember that it was from late Season 6 (copyrighted 1989, B&A was used and Charlie was the announcer) and the contestants names were Tammy/Janice/Randy. Randy actually solved this puzzle and a female voice solving it was dubbed in place of him, though Pat's voice can still be heard.

So that's what it was for, huh? Well, was going to reply to this thread anyway since I just saw this video uploaded to Instagram. Still, why they used the old Puzzle Board for this is beyond me, but at least the reason for this layout's existence has finally been given to us and I think that's what's more important. http://instagr.am/p/BKv462zByPa

Season 3, Episode 3 ("To Sardines and Back") has another dream sequence featuring Caitlyn Jenner and Ntozake Shange as themselves. And here's an overhead shot of the Wheel.

Well, I think that answers a question I've had for a while now: clearly, Wheel games with celebrities are restricted to dream sequences in other shows. That second picture...wow, those visuals are definitely trippy in a 1970s sort of way. Kudos for reminding me of the chroma-key closing shot, too. I haven't seen the show, but if 18-36-72 are significant numbers for Ali, the fact that early-'89 nighttime show wasn't quite right (along with the two dream sequences) may suggest some issues mentally. The fact she saw a Season 6 episode may also explain why the latter dream sequence has that era's "Changing Keys". (Then again, who's airing classic Wheel in the first place? I don't see a GSN logo in that puzzle board shot, and they'd be the most likely suspect for repeats.)

In fact, I've seen the episode uploaded in YouTube. I'm not linking it since it's out of the rules, but you can find it easily by searching.
(If this post itself it's out of the rules don't hesitate to delete it)
