Howdy,
I'm considering going to the Wheelmobile event in The Colony, TX, on Sunday, and wanted to see if I could get some advice.
I would really, really like to try to get on the show with my wife, but we might not both be able to make the trip. After reading through the Wheelmobile sticky I feel better about being able to, but I still might have to make the trip alone, or not at all. I'm a little worried, so I have a few questions that I hope y'all can answer:
If I go alone, could I possibly be considered as a couples contestant?" If, say, I were selected as an individual and I can only be on the show once, would turning down the offer to save my chance at getting on with her be a valid or silly decision (I confess I couldn't find contestant candidacy rules in a cursory search)? Since there aren't many weeks for a married couple to fit the contestant bill, is it foolish to try to shoot for that option?
Would it be better to just apply with a video entry online? Do they only accept special week entries at certain times, or could we apply that way at any time?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Do they only accept special week entries at certain times, or could we apply that way at any time? If the show's contestant application page is any indication, you can apply for special weeks at any time. There's a section that asks "Which of these theme weeks are you interested in?", with one being Sweethearts Week (which I'm guessing extends to all Couples Weeks). I don't know if you and your wife have to apply separately, though. (I confess I couldn't find contestant candidacy rules in a cursory search)? Are you talking about the eligibility requirements? If so, they're on the aforementioned page as well, right at the bottom.

I would diversify-- try everything and hope to get a shot. I would not turn down any opportunity though. Like you said, the odds of getting on the show at all are slim and there are even fewer slots for couples to play. Unless you ONLY want to play with your wife, I would go for every chance that presents itself.
I think sending a video of the two of you might be a good start. And make sure you put on all of your applications that you want to play with your wife. You never know...!
Good luck!

^ What Melanie said. But also, I read somewhere that even if you audition as a couple, they will consider you individually (like if one of you sucks or something. ) Also, if you get a final audition yourself (via video or Wheelmobile), they will often say to bring a spouse/friend/family member (whatever they are looking for, if they're looking for teams). It also wouldn't hurt (if you get a final audition) to just ask if you're wife can come.

^ What Melanie said. But also, I read somewhere that even if you audition as a couple, they will consider you individually (like if one of you sucks or something. ) I submitted an online application and went directly to a final audition, so I can't speak exactly to what happens when you do it via a Wheelmobile event, but I applied individually online and said that I would be interested in family week and when I got my email to go to a final audition, they said that I was invited individually, but they were also auditioning for teams and I was welcome to bring a teammate to audition with (although they gave some specific requirements on what they were looking for, e.g., married couples with children between the ages of 2 and 16 at home, and certain family relationships). They also said that if I did bring a teammate, they would still consider each of us as individuals as well. My brother and I were selected to be contestants as a team, so we are just waiting for the call. I think that either of us probably would have gotten on individually, but I'm not going to try to second guess whether it's better to go on individually or as a team, I'm just thrilled that we get a chance to be on the show.

I never went to a Wheelmobile but I submitted a video online. A few weeks later I was sitting in a final audition and now I have a letter but am waiting on a film date. As debra mentioned, my final audition invite was specifically looking for married couples with children and said to let them know in your RSVP if you were bringing a spouse. So you can do the Wheelmobile alone and then bring your spouse to the audition. Even though the email mentioned couples with kids, I saw a brother/sister team at our audition so I think they'll consider their needs.

I did the online video, but in my audition invite, they indicated if you and your significant other fit within a certain parameter of contestants they were looking for for a teammate week, you were welcome to bring them.
Example from the email: "If you are a "Newlywed" (married two years or less), you are welcome to bring your spouse and to audition as a team."
However, they also did emphasize at the end of the audition that it was possible, with regards to the couples, that one spouse may receive the letter and the other may not. So if you do get an audition and the letter, I highly encourage you to accept it and take any chance you get at playing as it's very hard to get on the show in the first place and you may not get another chance if you turn down the first one (I'm speaking in terms of declining to be put in the pool, rather than asking to reschedule a taping because of a conflict).
