Get ready for some totally awesome, like Twitteriffic puzzles.
They don't give the teens the credit they deserve with the puzzles. Why do they feel they have to cater to the way they think a teen thinks?

Why do they feel they have to cater to the way they think a teen thinks? The differences between the demographic catering on Jeopardy! vs. Wheel is astonishing. Like, J!'s teen and college shows always have clues on Internet memes, viral stuff, relevant music, technology, gaming, teen-targeted TV shows, actual current slang ("YAS QUEEN"), etc. They actually know this is stuff their contestants will know. Even right now, that video of Alex reading rap clues is going viral and even though J! and Wheel both generally have the same viewer demographics, it's considered the "cooler" show in the online community because of stuff like this. Wheel restricts themselves so much on their puzzle writing these days. You'll never see "THROWING SHADE" on the Wheel puzzle board (mainly because they don't do anything negative anymore), but you'll hear it as the correct response to a J! clue. Wheel just throws in words like "TOTALLY" and "TEXT" and expects that 15-year-olds will know the title of an iconic song from the 1970's. Teen and college weeks usually only have like one actually-good puzzle all week, usually involving something that J! has done clues about multiple times by that point. I mean, both shows share a lot of staff members, so surely at least some of the material should cross over. |

I don't mind the restricted puzzles. If they think some puzzles would make older viewers be confused, then I'm here for the puzzle writers sticking to what they know and not trying to ruin what makes Wheel #1, and I'm here for the older viewers just trying to find something fulfilling in their lives. I'm not here for a shallow online community full of Jeopardy! elitists. Also, cultural absorption can extend to even younger people than its original targets, but it does not work the other way around for the most part. I'll be watching, and if there is a $100,000 or OMGMILLIONBUX win... some people who didn't want to see a silly puzzle would miss it.

In Chicago they're giving away a trip to Culver City to watch the tapings for Chicago week. In the rules of that contest it says the tapings will be March 23rd.

Why do they feel they have to cater to the way they think a teen thinks? I would've said "because Friedman and Sony are out of touch", but as Robert said Jeopardy! hasn't fallen victim to this issue. My best guess is that the people who put together the material for these weeks on Jeopardy! simply aren't involved with Wheel. |
