In this installment of the Evaluation series...a short-lived element that was an interesting idea on paper, but maybe too complex for its own good?
Image courtesy MarioGS . That should say "Big Money" in the display. HOW IT WORKED:- The Big Money Wedge was on the wheel for Round 3 only, and shuffled between five possible values: Bankrupt, Lose a Turn, $5,000, $7,500, and $25,000.
- If a player landed on the wedge while it displayed a cash amount, and called a letter that was in the puzzle, the amount displayed went into the player's bank (not per letter). The wedge would then revert to a regular $1,000 space.
- Obviously, if the player landed on the wedge while it displayed a penalty, that penalty took effect immediately.
WHAT WE KNOW:- The Big Money Wedge debuted in 2007 and lasted one season.
- While it was not the case for the first week of the wedge's life (as it was treated as a prize), the cash won from the Big Money Wedge could be used on vowels.
- There is a known case of using the Wild Card for one of the amounts on the wedge--this was later changed so that it could only be used for the $1,000 per letter.
- It is the only wedge in the history of the show to be able to change value during a round.
WHAT WE WANT TO KNOW:- Was this a good idea?
- If you were to bring this back, what would you change about it?
- Which structure was better? Having the cash be treated the same as a prize, or making it spendable?

Was this a good idea?Certainly, although I haven't seen much in action, I consider that it wasn't a bad idea. Not only you had to be lucky to hit it, you had to be lucky to hit the wedge in the most appropriate moment! If you were to bring this back, what would you change about it?The wedge needed its own round and not being mixed with the Mystery Wedges, because it complicated the round with too many complex gimmicks (yes, currently we have the Prize Puzzle and Express together, but the Prize Puzzle is only giving an extra prize to the player who wins the round). I would also offer a wider and more coherent variety of prizes. $5,000, $7,500, $10,000, $15,000 and maybe $20,000 along with the Bankrupt and the Lose a Turn would be quite reasonable. Which structure was better? Having the cash be treated the same as a prize, or making it spendable?
In order to make the game more consistent, I would give the cash as a prize. Let me explain: every cash value is multiplied by the number of consonants in the puzzle... People could think that it would apply for this wedge too, and they would be confused if they call a multiple and they only win the face value (we know what happens with the Million Dollar Wedge in social media every time it's landed). As it's an special wedge, I think that it's more coherent: the contestant lands on the Big Money Wedge, calls a correct consonant and Pat gives him/her a symbolic wedge that it's added to his/her scoreboard. There wouldn't be any confusions in this way... At least it's what I think

Season 25 was one of my favorites mainly because of the big money wedge. It was a new and exciting element that we've never seen before.
If it was brought back, I would have it on the wheel permanently. Although, the changing amounts would be more realistic like $1,000, $2,000, $2,500, $3,000...through $5,000. It would also include Bankrupt, Lose a Turn, & Free Play. Basically, my version would replace the top dollar value wedge.

If it would replace the top dollar wedge, what round you place it in, TLC? Just curious.

^It would be in EVERY round, completely replacing the top dollar wedge in the same spot that the top dollar value's in now.

So, hear me out on this one.
I've seen the concept used in Stage 11 3/4 before...instead of a Big Money Wedge, an "Item" wedge.
It would shuffle just like the Big Money Wedge did, except instead of dollar figures, there are various special tokens/wedges, plus your standard penalties. So let's say it's shuffling between the Wild Card, Free Play, Express, 1/2 Car, and...heck, I don't know, something else. Free Spin, let's say. Player calls a letter that's in the puzzle while on the wedge, they get whatever token is showing in the window (or in the case of Free Play or Express, the effects of said space take effect). And this would be on the wheel for the whole game, and would change to cash amounts for the Final Spin.
Too complicated?

Aww, it changed to cash just for me because it knew I wanted cash! Very interesting wedge. It seems complicated to include Express, but it may not be too complicated in actual use.

I first heard about this wedge on the show's website shortly before the 25th Season premiered, and I was absolutely excited about it. I could hardly wait for the season to begin because I had thought after thought after thought of what it would look like. The night the season premiered, I made illustrations and graphics based off what I saw and made this animation the following day during my graphic design class (I had started my senior year of high school just weeks earlier). After finishing work on the animation, I showed it to my teacher, who knows how big of a Wheel of Fortune fan I am. She was absolutely impressed. www.deviantart.com/art/Big-Money-Wedge-65546121More than eight years since its demise, I still love this wedge, so much so that I've been using it on my own fan-made adaption of Wheel of Fortune. The five outcomes are the same, but the three cash values are treated as prizes and cannot be spent on vowels. As for the wedge, it offers a face value of $2000 (shown by having the face value glow through bright, gold LEDs attached to the side of the numbers) unless a penalty is showing (the numbers will not glow if this is the case). If a cash prize is claimed, the screen will show it. Previously, the wedge on my version was dark blue, but it's dark purple these days. While it was still dark blue, I made a series of screens and displays for what it would look like under various circumstances, including different displays for the penalties. www.deviantart.com/art/My-Big-Money-Wedge-Screens-550232134

"Was this a good idea?" Yes. "If you were to bring this back, what would you change about it?" If a cash amount was on the Big Money Wedge when landed on, you would get that amount of cash for each instance of a letter like normal, but because of this, I would only bring it back on "Big Money" Week. "Which structure was better? Having the cash be treated the same as a prize, or making it spendable?" Making it spendable.

Pat: We're looking for a Phrase this round, and Lauren, you get to start... There's $25,000 showing in that Big Money Wedge and... you got it. Let's have a letter. Lauren: T! Pat: ...You know, there are only four of 'em. Harry:

^Now that I’ve thought about it, they probably would only have the Big Money wedge every few seasons, if at all. Another example of what you posted is if they repeated SUMMERTIME SUMMERTIME SUM SUM SUMMERTIME and someone called the eleven M’s on Big Money while it was showing $25,000. Then, the contestant would have $275,000. So now, this is unrealistic. Now, I doubt it would happen even when Mike Richards is producer.
