Anyone else disappointed with what Wheel is doing with wordplay categories? Just about every week has followed this:
-CROSSWORD is used exactly 3 times a week. CROSSWORD is only occasionally on a Friday, leading to a very predictable wordplay prediction late in the week. CROSSWORD also doesn't like Mondays that much, leading to quite a few Tu-Th weeks. -BEFORE & AFTER is often the first non-CROSSWORD wordplay, quite often on Monday or Tuesday, occasionally Friday. It still gets in there once a week, leaving one more wordplay category on the week for... -SAME LETTER and SAME NAME is the 5th wordplay, most often alternating weeks, quite often on Friday. SAME NAME LOVES Friday to a ridiculous degree.
They really should be able to mix things up better than this.

Yes, I've noticed this.
To my knowledge, there's not been a crossword puzzle in any game with either a SL, SN, or B&A.
And, as of recent, SL doesn't appear in the same game with crossword, B&A, or SN.
I think by using 3 crosswords a week they'll get old quick. They should really think about reducing the usage.

Once the newness of Crossword wears off, it will probably go down to 1-2 times per week, and the rotation will flow better.

So that's what they call these kinds of categories? I knew they were in a certain group.

So I guess it's pretty much a rule now that one (never more than one) of either BEFORE & AFTER, SAME NAME, SAME LETTER, or a CROSSWORD must appear in every game.

With the addition of the CROSSWORD, SN and SL have really gotten the boot this season. To a point, even B&A has been limited.
I think CROSSWORD should only be used twice a week, at the most. Some weeks I'd only use it once. But, Harry likes them because they make for minimal solves.

When I do at-home games, I've started limiting the crossword puzzles because the players (no matter who's playing) can't seem to grasp the concept of not including the word "and" when they solve it. Even when I say, "say all the words up there but be careful not to add anything.", they STILL say "and".
I'm really surprised this hasn't happened at least once on the show but to my knowledge it hasn't.

I'm really surprised this hasn't happened at least once on the show but to my knowledge it hasn't. It's happened quite a bit on the Spanish version, and is in fact (one of?) the reason(s) they don't play them anymore. Right, lousan92? Also...Crossword isn't an everyday thing? Maybe I haven't been watching frequently enough to tell.

^To my knowledge, a crossword puzzle is used 3 times a week. The other 2 days either have SAME NAME, BEFORE & AFTER, or SAME LETTER.

And sometimes neither (September 19, for example).

It only lasted eight months here in Spain (seven and a half to be precise).

I forgot November 10 and 24 as well (even though the 10th had a Crossword that got thrown out).

No I'm talking about the episode that was supposed to air on the 10th but instead aired on Veterans Day.

So, to date there have only been 3 episodes (this season) that did not have either a CROSSWORD, SAME NAME, BEFORE & AFTER, or SAME LETTER.
•September, 19
•November, 11 (Did have a crossword but was thrown out due to a gameplay error.)
•November, 24

It's becoming really obvious why they love Crossword so much: it saves money. Each intersecting consonants save them the value of a Wheel spin for whatever turn that letter is called on because it's one less instance of that letter, plus contestants are somehow constantly dudding and missolving one of the words with 1-3 blanks left (though sometimes forgivable) which usually means the next player solves for the house minimum with the usual "one spin and solve"/spingle, or just not being able to amass more than 1000/2000 for teams from the remaining blanks.
Don't count on Crossword being a one-season thing. If it's good for the budget, they're going to keep it with equal or greater frequency. The show doesn't retire anything that makes them save money unless it's related to the Prize Puzzle round, of course.
Not to mention that half of the Crosswords are essentially just a revival of Fill in the Blank without the $3,000 bonus opportunity because they already give you the answer at the outset.

You don't think they just want to get a lot of mileage out of their new category? They don't seem shy about just using ordinary short puzzles.
