TU1 was tough.

BR was easy. That should've been solved especially with those letter picks.

I was completely stumped on TU1. Just couldn't make anything out of SEA_S that fit with LUXURY. TU3 was begging for a BACKUP SINGERS misfire. It looked like there was a null before the C in R2. MarioGS, any idea? BR seemed set up for a win, so I'm surprised she wasn't even close. |

Since going on and on about what Vanna's wearing is unnecessary, I'll just say it was beautiful and leave it at that. R1 reminded me of SAME LETTER. Though Crosswords are usually low on multiples, this one had 6 R's! Too bad they were unclaimed. R3 and R4 seemed random, and I thought R4 was A WOCKET IN YOUR POCKET when the T's came up. The BR was a Lunareon (all consonants showing) and I RSTLNE'd it, but the starts-with-a-vowel trap left it unsolved. Rare that Show Biz is used in the BR, and one-worders aren't used often either. And the name of the car was literally in the puzzle...

A godawful non-risk on mystery decided this game... pretty unusual.
She gets both consonants, has a very specific category, and she still was silent... am I wrong in thinking that should have been easily solved still despite the bad vowel?

^I think "Big Money" Week is more or less just a tribute to the days when EVERY contestant said "Big money!" EVERY TIME they spun the wheel.
I do like the set colors and the coin stacks by the puzzle board.

^ Nah. It was usually a week of experimenting with higher dollar values in the main game and/or Bonus Rounds, sometimes as consideration for the next season, or sometimes the theme would be combined with a Vegas theme, usually being taped there. Their last higher-money experiment in 2012 may have backfired, but it shouldn't have meant abandoning the experiments completely until a shameful comeback last season. I say they should just let Price keep what they stole.  And we all know that it just means using the names of the people on money on Toss-Up puzzles now. |

^ But what about the $10K Wheel Slots prize? And the number of multiples we had, particularly the 6 Rs in R2? Is it fair to at least say they ever so slightly increased the possibility for big money to be won? OK, maybe not. 😛 I'll settle for Carl saying BIG MONEY several times and for Pat's priceless zinger to him about not ever needing to tell him to speak up. This was a pretty decent start to a hopefully big week.
Just when it looked like Carl would run away with this game, Najja takes over by just $300 with that Prize Puzzle! Shows that one round is all it takes. Kudos to Leslie for her late rally. If only Carl flipped that Mystery Wedge...
But sometimes, one-round wins aren't always good news. Perhaps Najja got nervous in the BR or that the puzzle started with a vowel got her, but I'm surprised she didn't solve it.
Speaking of the puzzles, I thought TU1 was DOLLAR SIGNS. (LUXURY SEATS? No wonder it was almost a stumper...) And the Prize Puzzle is a nice short phrase that basically means you feel ecstatic or excited.

This is just a theory on my part, but Wheel/Sony may have gutted the purpose of Big Money Week because they think the term alone will draw eyeballs without having to spend/risk extra money to justify the name. I FEEL TRANSPORTED got a lot more Google hits than I thought! Now it did omit the "I" from the results, but still. Did a search myself because I was curious to see what would turn up. Not only was "I" not omitted (though that could be because I'm using a mobile device, not sure on that), but a couple results on the first page were an excerpt from some book series called Under the Billionaire's Domination. The genre of said books? "Erotic romance". Yes, really. |

A null cycle was cut after the first turn of R2. Go to 1:29: vid.me/e/NKyYNajja was about to hit the Bankrupt, so Carl probably followed with a Lose a Turn and then Leslie either with a Bankrupt near $3500 or a dud S. Disappointed that puzzle didn't have an Apple product in the mix. IPHONE partially filled would have been a huge stumper for many, which I'm sure they would have appreciated. |
