Last year, Wheel had another "second chance" lottery sweepstakes across select states, awarding winners with a trip to the Wheel stage in LA. In addition to another set of "Lottery Experience" games, winners also had the chance to spin the Wheel with an interesting wedge approach... www.facebook.com/nclottery/videos/10155286217519374/The Wheel is covered entirely in removable wedges with the WOF logo. Each contestant spins from the yellow podium and they win whatever cash amount is on the reverse of the wedge they landed on. Underneath seems to be entirely blank black wedges. The video is very low-quality, but it looks like Jim Thornton is hosting this event. To the right of the contestants is stage manager John Lauderdale. The closest we will ever see to $850 being on the Wheel today.

It may not look like Jim Thornton, but it sure sounds like him! I wish he had that kind of enthusiasm on the air.

$850? Cool, and speaking of which, I thought I'd tell you I just stumbled across a couple photos of Lottery Experience Trip Winners from early 2012. The photos have a very different Wheel layout, complete with a couple long-retired Wheel values and at least one value that was never used on the show. Not a Bankrupt, Lose A Turn, or Free Play in sight. Both photos can be seen on this site. You'll have to scroll down near the bottom to see them. rilot.com/winners.asp

Hey, good to see $850 hasn't been forgotten. I just stumbled across a couple photos of Lottery Experience Trip Winners from early 2012. The photos have a very different Wheel layout, complete with a couple long-retired Wheel values and at least one value that was never used on the show. Okay, gotta admit seeing $1500 and $2000 made me smile. And the $1000 wedges are yellow, which is a nice touch. Always fun to see another outside-the-box value with $1750. Enjoy your obscurity alongside the $1800-$3600-$7200 trio! Also interesting that for the top value they basically combined the $10,000 Wedge and a green variant of the ½ Car wedge.

Seeing "regular" 4-digit wedges on a Wheel in that context is so beautiful.

And luckily, those two pictures gave us the full layout! Back in 2011, I remember reading the official rules for the WOF Second Chance sweepstakes where there was a section stating that each winner would spin the Wheel once for a cash value between $300 and $10,000. I would have thought they'd just do something like this, with Free Play acting as a "Spin Again": Hopefully the lottery paid to have that special layout made. If you look closely, the numbers don't have the prismatic outlines like on the actual show or the Transparent layout. I also find it a bit amusing that the green $700 is back on that layout even though it had decreased to $500 on the actual layout by this point. Also notice that the red podium is lit in both pictures, so the spins were probably done from Red instead of Yellow like the new sweepstakes. It's a good thing this wasn't discovered until now. If it had been at the time these were taken, people might have hoped this was going to be involved with Season 30 of the show proper. Even with $300-$450 still present, add the penalties and Free Play and this layout would be a million times better than the current one on the show proper.

Yeah, I'm with you on that, Robert, but anyway, all of you are very welcome for this find. I certainly have plans on recreating this layout. I feel very lucky that we have the chance to do that because of both photos.
