Evan Silbert has posted some Woolery WOF footage of his two appearances from either 1977 or 1978 on his Facebook page, his page says he got married in NOvember 1978 and he says he was engaged to be married in his interview (scroll down to see it)

It's always a great day when more Woolery footage turns up, especially with an animated-on-their-own-accord player like Evan. Before I continue, the main video post is here, with a further brief clip here. Now lemme see if I can narrow this down... * All the set changes known to have been present by January 18, 1978 are here, including the "on account" display being used for returning champ totals, as well as the monospaced category displays. * The Round 1 layout has a blue $400 next to a blue $300 and the Star Bonus is nowhere in sight, so it's definitely before April 4, 1978 (accounting for Chuck's comment on April 6 that they just retired an undefeated champ). * Probably the biggest tell is the end of the intro, which is the same style used on 1/18/78 (Charlie saying "Now, let's meet your host"), putting this before March 15, 1978. * Susan's present in both episodes, so it's not during her four-week absence in late '77. In any case, this means that the puzzle HANKY-PANKY is the earliest known use of punctuation, though I find it interesting that it's on a single line. Unfortunately, without something like the closing credits (for the Griffin logo and/or an NBC voiceover) or a Bankrupt hit (the few clips of the second episode indicate Evan hit Bankrupt a couple of times, and the slide whistle was apparently added in '77), I don't think this can be narrowed down any further.

Well there is one element that very likely places this in 1977. Even though the scoreboards are now five-digits, the top of the arrows are still faded looking. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe they were updated to the shinier colors by 1/18/78 and definitely by 3/15/78. The photos from January 1977 during brides week show that the scoreboards were still four digits at that point.
Evan's Facebook page also states that he got engaged in 1976.
There is a split second shot of the wheel just as Chuck does the opening spin and it is the same layout present on 1/18/78.
It's 1977, for sure.

In any case, this means that the puzzle HANKY-PANKY is the earliest known use of punctuation, though I find it interesting that it's on a single line. And also the earliest known instance of... a puzzle being completely exposed before being "solved" ... predating the next circulating instance of said occurrence by more than two years.
