Finally some official word.

“Wheel of Fortune” is coming to Central Florida to tape three weeks of shows at Walt Disney World Resort.

Epcot, which is marking its 35th anniversary as well, plays host Oct. 10-12.

Good news: Central Florida players will compete.

Bad news, fans: The show is out tickets for the tapings. The stage will be next to World Showcase Lagoon, between World Showcase and Future World.

“Wheel” will air the programs through the year during crucial ratings periods. The game show airs locally at 7:30 p.m. on WFTV-Channel 9.

The first week, featuring grandparent and grandchild teams, will showcase the holidays at Walt Disney World. Those programs air the week of Nov. 13.

The second week of shows, featuring married couples, will air Feb. 12-16 next year. The celebration of Valentine’s Day will promote Disney’s Fairytale Weddings.

The third week of shows will feature Disney fans and will air the week of April 30 — during the May ratings period.

A fourth week of shows, called “Disney Sea & Shore Week,” will be produced at the “Wheel” home studio in Culver City, Calif., in November. Those programs will debut the week of Jan. 8 next year and will feature Disney Cruise Line.

“Disney and ‘Wheel of Fortune’ are a magical combination of brands that give families opportunities to create memories together,” said Harry Friedman, “Wheel” executive producer. “When planning our 35th Anniversary season, we could think of no better place to mark this memorable milestone than the Walt Disney World Resort.”

Disney will provide “a robust selection of prizes for contestants and viewers during the four weeks of shows,” “Wheel” said in announcing the shows.

Those prizes include Disney gift cards, Disney Cruise Line trips, vacations at Aulani — A Disney Resort & Spa in Hawaii, and Adventures by Disney prize packages. “Prize Puzzles” will be Disney Vacation Club trips. Viewer giveaways will offer the chance to win family trips to Walt Disney World Resort.

There’s more promotion ahead. Pat Sajak, Vanna White and the crew will shoot segments at Magic Kingdom Park, Epcot, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Copper Creek Villas and Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, and Disney’s Wedding Pavillion. Footage from Aulani, Disney Cruise Line ships and Adventures By Disney locations also will be used in the shows, “Wheel” said.

Good to get confirmation, but the secrecy's done them no favors since...

Bad news, fans: The show is out tickets for the tapings.

...And hence nobody getting this news can actually go there to see the tapings. What, did they raffle the tickets off in secret, each bundled with a non-disclosure agreement?

As for why all the secrecy, the only theory that comes to my mind is that somebody wanted to have control over who's in the audience for these shows.

Apparently, the tickets were only advertised on WFTV News. Still, there was never anything on their website about applying for tickets online so I have no idea what people had to do to get tickets. Shame, because I'm sure somebody out there might have used the tapings as an excuse to take a trip to WDW.

As soon I read "through the year during crucial ratings periods", I knew that meant the three weeks would be spread out among the three sweeps months, but I believe this is the first time one single remote has shows airing across all three. Normally, they would either air all at once in one month, or divide the weeks among two of the months.

I find it hilarious that even though they're doing this, they're still doing a Culver City Disney week, as if they could only afford to be there for three days but not four.

ABC's "The Chew" is currently filming episodes at EPCOT scheduled to air next week, one of which features Vanna as a guest.

Wheel will be taping on the same stage. Unlike past Disney World tapings, this one will be outdoors.

The Bankrupt/$650/Free Play section has been replaced with $500/$900/$3500, made by covering up Free Play and adding the two-wedge cut of the layout that they normally only use in Round 3 between $3500 and Express. I doubt we'll see it like this on-camera, though.

What makes it even more unlikely is the fact that there is only one Bankrupt on a game show that has been very conscious about their budget in recent years.

Though in the earlier picture, you can see Free Play still on the Wheel. Probably a promo or something.

I'd love to see them change up the wheel for sweeps weeks (per their news release, these shows are all airing during sweeps periods), but it seems unlikely they would remove Free Play to do it, although it's within the realm of possibility that they would nuke Free Play given they are also removing a Bankrupt. I'm leaning toward a promo of some sort as well, but this isn't THAT outlandish of an idea for sweeps weeks. We'll find out soon.

Wheel desperately could use an injection of some unusual/never before seen elements for their ratings periods, and making more liberal use of the $3500 space for their 35th anniversary makes a LOT of sense. Heck Price is Right gave a car away as an item up for bid yesterday!

Now is as good a time as any!

I'm expecting SOMETHING new/unusual this season for sweeps periods, as unlikely as that may appear due to past history. They stopped the $5k every day to save up some money for something... and while that could be to do the remote, I would expect Disney is helping defray some of the costs of this given that Disney has their Epcot 35th anniversary tie in. They could easily incorporate a change like this that is unique to this set of shows. No reason they can't expand on their "special wedges for a limited time" concept that they did for Wheel 6000 week.
