I got the privilege of seeing Wheel of Fortune in person a few weeks ago in Culver City! I was in town for another event and made the time to see two taping sessions (6 shows) in person. Everybody I came in contact with was so incredibly nice and helpful. As a future contestant, I wanted to do a little "recon" to see how the show operates from the audience point of view. Being on as long as it has, it's obviously a well-oiled machine. Not much wasted time between shows and Jim Thornton does a great job keeping the audience engaged and up to speed with what's going on. I picked an interesting group of shows to see. One contestant took the MDW to the BR and spun on it and another spun on the $100,000 card. I won't give any spoilers here. As I wait to get a taping date, I was jealous of the people down on the floor playing the game. I'm looking forward to being there and spinning the wheel. Once I get a tape date, I'll give my story from audition to taping. Thanks to all the great people on this board who helped me incredibly when I auditioned. It was a big help just knowing how the auditions are done and what to expect. Tvdave Had to hide those those two extra tidbits. Even if you don't give the outcomes, that's still a spoiler. Sorry, Dave. -MarioGS

Trust me... it's a whirlwind experience to say the very least. You think the wheel is this HUGE thing based on how it looks on TV but as you now can tell, couldn't be further from the truth My "Week" I was part of ALSO had a contestant take the MDW all the way to the bonus round. She WON the bonus round, but missed the MDW by one slot. Was a HUGE Roller Coaster ride. Tie into that 2 $100,000 Bonus Rounds and my week was CRAZY to say the least LOL I just hope you get to go down and experience it from the contestants point of view as soon as possible. It'll be a day you will NEVER EVER forget

One thing I forgot to mention was how much fun it was watching the friends and family of the contestants who were there to support them. I got to meet a few folks in line before we went into the studio and it was great to see their family members do well on the show! It's too bad they can't do a split screen to show the supporter's reactions. It's pretty funny to see how nervous they get when it's their friends turn to play.
They keep friends and family as far as they can from the players on stage so there's no chance they can be helped by their supporters. It was great seeing player's friends & family get so emotional as they watched it happen. Only something you can witness if you're there in person.

When my parents were in the audience for my Jeopardy! appearance back in 2003, they (and my sister, actually, sitting in the row behind them) briefly got on camera when I got a Daily Double right. They looked relieved then, but so says my dad after the fact: "Your mother was gripping my hand so tightly, I thought she was going to have a third child."

That's hilarious! I can only imagine what it feels like to see someone you care about trying to answer a question for $. I'm sure you feel hopeless when they mess up on a solve which I saw while I was there. The person ended up making up for it by going to the bonus round thank goodness. That's my fear, (like others I'm sure) that I'll make a bonehead mistake that follows me on YouTube!
