Lurker here! Tomorrow is my final audition and I'm trying to play it cool.
Yeah right. I'm a ball of nerves. I'm worried about the test. Any helpful hints before the morning?
Thanks everyone!

The final audition is largely playing mock games. They'll let you do about three or four spins. Don't worry about solving puzzles there, although pretty much everyone gets at least a chance or two to solve. They just want to see that you know logical letters, that you can move the game along quickly, and that you can speak up and show energy.
Dress well, bring your A game. Eat well, bring all your energy, that kinda thing.
The written test can be hard. Just fill in what you can if you get stuck. Even little things like common endings can help. For instance, plural categories will pretty much guarantee an S, What Are You Doing? will pretty much guarantee an -ING ending, and there are lots of words that end in -TION in general. Looking for common linking words like THE, AND, WITH can also be helpful. On my written test, I got stuck on a "Rhyme Time" puzzle, and at least put down two words that rhymed and fit the blanks given.
If you make it to the end, they'll usually interview you. Sell yourself, tell the coordinators what makes you interesting.

Thank you tph! I'm trying to get my elevator pitch together. I think I'll skip the common one of traveling and go with something memorable but not weird.

Don't get worked up about the Pat Chat - they really don't care much about it. Just have something ready to say that makes sense. What they care most about: - Calling logical letters - CALL ALL THE DOUBLE+ LETTERS yet to be revealed. They want you to win money, not solve fast. - They are NOT impressed with fast solves. Don't do that. - Use FREE PLAY to buy vowels. Always. Even if you woudn't do that on the show. When it is your turn, it will probably be with a new puzzle, or a partially filled out puzzle. Spin the wheel, buy vowels, spin again to get all the double, triple, etc consonants off the board, THEN solve. - If Jackie lands on $5,000 - be excited about that. A "woohoo" will suffice. - Smile and clap for everyone. They keep an eye on how people are reacting when they aren't playing. The test is very much how TPH describes. 16 puzzles. 4 categories. They'll give credit for partially filled out puzzles. The time goes fast. Scan for what you know, fill those out quickly. You have roughly 20 seconds per puzzle.

I remember the Audition itself and I had a blast the entire time Some of the people there I had a strong feeling would not be good candidates for the show but for the most part everyone was having a blast. Were you able to solve any of the puzzles? And was Jackie as animated as I remember (Granted this was just back in August but still LOL). Hope you are one of the lucky chosen ones!!!!

I had a final audition as well this past Thursday 12/7... Were you at the audition in DC like I was?
In the first round, I was able to solve the puzzle LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION from an empty board. They told me during that solve that I should smile a bit more (which I thought I was doing). But I think I got about 12/16 or so on the written test and made it through those "cuts" as well.
In the 3rd round, I kept the enthusiasm, think I simulated spinning the wheel much better than most of the folks there, and played smart getting a lot of letters. Though I got a forced LOSE A TURN when I kept going for too long on the puzzle EVERY LITTLE THING SHE DOES IS MAGIC.
I'm very anxious about if I'll get a letter in the mail or not. Worst part is that the 2 week period is near the holidays so I don't know if I should expect a mail delay or not. I'm going along with the thought process that if I don't get a letter by New Years, it is not coming.

Reading previous threads, they aren't considered that anymore and you can be selected even if not getting asked to stay for the later portions of the audition.

No letter today and I told myself not to worry because even though many folks get it after exactly 14 days, it's the holidays so letters may take a bit longer and some folks do get a bit after 14 days. But I'm still internally panicking!
