Daytime Wheel of Fortune - Original Airdate 5/20/1976
Look at this sleek, sporty compact car... this cozy den, including oak and cane wall units... this fun garden patio, including a mahogany fun tub for two... this fabulous gold bracelet watch... and just look at this great 1976 station wagon... plus this colorful gourmet kitchen, including a gourmet trip for two to New Orleans! These are just some of the many exciting prizes available, total retail value of all these prizes, more than $30,000... and are yours to buy today on Wheel of Fortune!
Well, actually, the chance to buy belongs to these folks:
Elliot Marcus, personnel administrator and father of three from Northridge, California, enjoys the outdoors
Kathi Peters, from Encinitas, California, engaged to be married, and that's about all we know
Lee Webb (female), returning champion with a two-day total of $10,575 from Diamond Bar, California
ROUND 1:
The top dollar value for this first round is $500. But look out for this black space, "BANKRUPT," cause if you hit it, lose all your cash - but not your merchandise, because once you buy a prize, it's yours to keep.

TITLE
Elliot drew the number 1, and spin number 1 is for $100 and one T. As Chuck reminds us about the Used Letter Board, Elliot hits $300 for a pair of N's, taking him to $700 total. A $175 R is next, as he just misses the $500... and then falls short of $450 into LOSE A TURN. Mellow yellow Kathi is long of the same $450, into the $150 spot for a couple S's - and now we have to take a quick time-out...

TITLE
Coming out of the break, it's still Kathi at the wheel, and she comes up with two M's on $300, taking her to $900. Our first vowel purchase of the day is the single E, then Kathi loses her remaining $650 to BANKRUPT. Lee gets to take a turn now, and she wants a big number, but can only get $200 for the D... and the beeps indicate there are only vowels left...

TITLE
MISTER SANDMAN brings Lee a dream... well, not much of a dream for $200, but she gets a chance to shop.
Lose a Turn: Elliot
Bankrupt: Kathi ($650)
Unclaimed Cash: $700 (Elliot)
Chuck takes Lee into the Gourmet Kitchen, and for $60 she takes the coffee grinder, leaving $140 for a Giorgio gift certificate.
Elliot: good play, bad luck
Kathi: pretty much the same as Elliot
Lee: $200
ROUND 2:
$1,000 is the top dollar on the wheel now. We've also got another Bankrupt on the wheel, and another puzzle on the board.

PLACE
Kathi gets to try and regain some of her Bankrupt losses from last round, but she's by the thousand for a $150 T. Then $800 slips past to $100 for the R and $650 gives way to $300 for the L. Continuing the trend, $600 goes by into $150 for a couple C's, and after four near misses on big numbers, Kathi slides her way into LOSE A TURN. Lee does land on a good number - $500 - but can't hit with the H, it's our first dud. Elliot will try his hand and take $300 for the S but immediately flush it to BANKRUPT. Back to Kathi, who took five letters to get $850 in her bank - she has a prime chance with $900 but misses with the M call. Lee's short of the six but nails the N for $175, then she's past $700 into $450 for the couple of K's. She beats Bankrupt to $400 for a P and then gets the $600 she missed earlier for a D - and only vowels are left...

PLACE
CANDLESTICK PARK is where the Giants played in 1976, and Lee has a giant score for the round: $2,075!
Duds: H (Lee), M (Kathi)
Lose a Turn: Kathi
Bankrupt: Elliot ($300)
Unclaimed Cash: $850 (Kathi)
Lee gets to take a little bit more money shopping this time, as we go into the Den. She's been looking for a color TV for three days now, and that's now hers for $550! She follows that up with his/hers recliners for $688, crystal beer mugs for $128, a vacuum cleaner for $240, and a magazine bin for $87. $382 is left, which gets put on another Giorgio gift certificate.
Elliot: can't buy a break
Kathi: lots of little numbers, no big break
Lee: $2,275
ROUND 3:
$1,500 is our top dollar from here on out. Chuck has seen the puzzle, and he thinks anyone could win it.

It's a short one, but the big numbers could still add up. Lee will try to find one of them first, but her N is only worth $500 after she slips out of $850. Our old friend $175 is back again for a T, but Lee can't pick up $300 for any R's. Elliot also strikes out on $300, as there is no S. Kathi proceeds to LOSE A TURN, having now hit a penalty space in every round of the game. Back to Lee and her $675, and the third time is the charm of $300, as there are three L's up there. There's also $300 to be had for a Y, but a commercial break before we try anything else...

Lee has $1,875 in the bank and control of the wheel going into the last segment... only long enough to LOSE A TURN. Elliot can't find the fifteen, but he stays out of Bankrupt on the $900, and the M going up prompts the vowel beeps...

LILY TOMLIN is the right answer for $900, as Elliot finally catches a little bit of a break at the end.
Duds: R (Lee), S (Elliot)
Lose a Turns: one each by Kathi and Lee
Unclaimed Cash: $1,875 (Lee)
Elliot will step out onto the Garden Patio to shop. He wants the outdoor screen house for $280, the portable TV for $160, the redwood patio furniture for $403, and the walnut carving board for $30. The last $27 goes to a Giorgio gift certificate.
FINAL SCORES:
Elliot: $900
Kathi: lovely parting gifts
Lee: $2,275 (three-day champion with $12,850 in prizes)
Lee will be back to play again and add to that impressive total. We don't have that episode, so we can only hope that she did well.
