What bonus puzzles have you seen on the show that you felt were just plain cruel? From the actual show only, nothing from mock games, "what if"s, or DPG.
Here are some of my nominees:

Don't have any to contribute, but I'd like to ask a question of my own... what are the hardest bonus puzzles you've seen that have still produced a win?

I didn't think GYPSY MOTH was hard at all. PHGO and you're set.
I remember seeing QUIZ SHOW on a Season 6 episode once.
In the five-and-a-vowel era, TWO IF BY SEA was the hardest I'd seen by far. Fake difficulty by only using half the quotation to begin with, and even with RSTLNE that one's nearly impossible.

THAT'S IFFY from 1999. Neither CDMA or BGHO would have done any favors here.

From this season...
KARAOKE PARTY
No one is picking a K.
A MINOR QUIBBLE is also tough.

SKIP IT from sometime around 1999. That's another rare one where PHGO and CDMA are equally useless.
I also remember WIVES being a BR sometime around 2004.

TAKING A POP QUIZ was brutal. I did not see that, and I am a teacher! Guess it is because pop quizzes are not really that common around here.
Q and Z are probably not getting called, and U is an unlikely candidate with the vowel. If P is not one of the chosen letters, then all you are going to see for the last two words is maybe the O or the I if they were called. Then you get either _O_ ____ or ___ __I_ in the absence of the P. Most people had "TAKING A" figured out, but this puzzle seems designed to not be solved.

“Dabbling In Magic” was for sure the last time I felt indignant towards a bonus round puzzle... I don’t know what the heck that was. That genuinely felt like random words strung together.

JULY was a bonus puzzle in 1998 or so. As Thing no less. That one is literally impossible, given the tough letters and blatantly wrong category

So the show's insistence that names of days and months are Things and not Events dates back even earlier than the 2010's. Good to know...
