Here are some scattered memories I have yet to pin dates to -- some from Season 6 reruns on GSN, some from early 2000s first-run and Saturday reruns. I wasn't as concerned with the show's history yet
, so I didn't do much note-taking at the time. I have no idea if any of these will ever pop up, but they're definitely things I want people to be on the lookout for.
Season 6
* At least two appearances of Nickname in the Bonus Round. The answers were HOT LIPS and MOTOR CITY, and I believe both were solved. I seem to remember that both were after the debut of RSTLNE but before Charlie returned.
* An episode after Charlie's return where the contestant asked for the "good ol' American cash" and Pat quipped that Charlie had to ad-lib, leading to him saying "good ol' cold cash" instead
* An episode where every puzzle except the BR was Thing (the BR was OLD KING COLE, obviously Fictional Character)
* An episode where the bonus puzzle was QUIZ SHOW
* An episode where an I in a puzzle failed to light up, but this was not noticed until a few turns later. I remember the puzzle had the word MIDNIGHT in it.
ca. 2001-04
* I remember a REALLY long game that had a Speed-Up puzzle of HAIR CARE. Even after the C was called, I seem to remember that it took a really long time to finish the round. This may have been from the 7-round game we've confirmed in March 2002, but I'm not sure.
* A puzzle where the players kept tripping over A TUBA PLAYER and saying things like TUBU PLAYER, TOBU PLAYER, etc.
* A closing segment where Pat "sang" to Giovanna and she responded by putting her fingers in her ears
* For a short time around 11/02, I seem to remember a lot of two-word bonus puzzles showing up on only one line, including BRICK WALL. CLIPBOARD was also a bonus puzzle somewhere around this timespan.
* A game where the answer was I'D LIKE TO SOLVE THE PUZZLE, without the "PAT" that it's had the other two times.
* A game where the $3,000 Toss-Up was WHAT A RELIEF and no one even managed to ring in. I seem to remember that the I was the last letter to pop up.
* A contestant who tried to solve a Speed-Up of TOBEY MAGUIRE AS SPIDER-MAN with only the S's but said IS instead of AS (also a very rare instance of Star & Role in a Speed-Up). I believe this was the same episode that had YOUNGSTOWN as a bonus puzzle
* I think I also remember a game where two of the Toss-Ups were triple stumpers, but I could be conflating it with the above
, so I didn't do much note-taking at the time. I have no idea if any of these will ever pop up, but they're definitely things I want people to be on the lookout for.
