My name is Nick and I am a person. I'm from Oak Creek, Wisconsin and currently I just sit around all day doing pretty much nothing. I used to be a cashier and food preparer at a truck stop, but that's long gone now. I don't have any memories prior to September 1, 1993, my first day of kindergarten. (But my mom has told me since that she put me in the afternoon class so I could watch "Price is Right." ) The one memory that certainly sticks out above all others has to be the events of August 5, 2012, when the Sikh Temple shooting occurred. I first noticed something was definitely off that day when I heard the third siren in about five minutes time during church approximately one mile north of the Temple. I drove home down the street past the Temple (which was open going south, but not north, at that time) and saw a police car at the entrance to the temple, and didn't think much of it until after I got home. Wow. I could only imagine that taking place at my church and how devastated I would be. I attended the vigil a few days later, which was led by one of my high school classmates, who also used to live in my neighborhood. (It did not appear they were expecting that many people, as the park was jam-packed and I could barely hear anything going on.) Oak Creek has certainly risen from the ashes since then, and I couldn't think of a better place to be right now.
