- WVUE New Orleans (FOX) by a Saints pregame special (even though the game itself is airing on on NBC affiliate WDSU). Jeopardy! will air at 10:35PM CT followed by Wheel at 11:05.
TUESDAY 12/18- KNSD San Diego (NBC O&O) by a local special on the Golden Globes. Wheel is not airing at all.
- KHQ Spokane (NBC) by a college basketball game. Tuesday's episodes of Jeopardy! and Wheel will air Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 and 2:30PM PT.
THURSDAY 12/20

FRIDAY 12/21
- The usual Friday pre-emption on WBZ Boston (CBS O&O) by Patriots All Access, moving Wheel and Jeopardy! to 2:07 and 2:37AM ET.
- KTVT Dallas (CBS O&O) by the Landry Award Ceremony. Wheel is being moved to independent sister station KTXA at its regular 6:30PM CT time, sliding back Millionaire half an hour to 7:00. This results in a straight block of five game shows from 5:00-7:30 on KTXA: Funny You Should Ask, Jeopardy! (double run), Wheel, and Millionaire.
- WNEM Bay City (CBS) by an infomercial for a Better Homes & Gardens holiday cookbook. Wheel will air at 2:37AM ET, replacing American Latino TV.
- KHQ Spokane (NBC) by a college basketball game. Friday's episodes of Jeopardy! and Wheel will air the following Monday, 12/24 at 2:00 and 2:30PM PT. This will not affect the shows' Saturday reruns on 12/22, with Wheel's airing at 4:30PM PT and J!'s at 6:30.

CBS affiliate WWNY in Carthage, NY is pre-empting Wheel tonight with a local special titled Heart of the North Country. Wheel is not airing at all and Jeopardy! is unaffected. They are also not airing Wheel's Saturday rerun this week at all (thanks to College Basketball running until 8:00PM ET on CBS), so this week's episodes probably won't be pushed back. www.wwnytv.com/story/39625563/heart-of-the-north-country-special-celebrates-feel-good-storiesAnother station that shows no regard for America's Game...

KGO San Francisco has some interesting scheduling for Harry's game shows on Christmas.
On Christmas Eve, both Jeopardy! and Wheel are pre-empted by the Broncos @ Raiders game, which is scheduled from 5:00-8:00PM PT. Rather than their usual tactic of airing the shows in primetime, overnight, or on a one-day delay, KGO will be holding both shows' Monday episodes until the next day in addition to airing their Tuesday episodes. On Christmas night, Jeopardy! and Wheel will each be airing two episodes back-to-back in the primetime window after the Christmas NBA tripleheader, like so...
TUESDAY 12/25 ON KGO: 11:30 AM - NBA Pregame 12:00 PM - NBA Game 1 (OKC @ HOU) 2:30 PM - NBA Game 2 (PHL @ BOS) 5:00 PM - NBA Game 3 (LA @ GSW) 7:30 PM - Jeopardy! 12/24 8:00 PM - Jeopardy! 12/25 8:30 PM - Wheel of Fortune 12/24 9:00 PM - Wheel of Fortune 12/25 9:30 PM - blackish
More info on the Christmas Day NBA pre-emption for everyone else coming soon.

Add another station to the "We don't care about Wheel, so we'll replace it with Jeopardy!" hit list: KNSD San Diego, an O&O to boot.
It feels like half the "Great American Cities" affiliates treat Wheel like dirt. Boston, Nashville, Philadelphia, and now San Diego have all pre-empted Wheel far too often and avoid doing anything to Jeopardy! if they can help it, as if Harry Friedman will burst into the building with a gun.

I complained to KNSD and asked for an explanation. They gave me the same excuse as WBZ Boston: "Jeopardy has more viewers." J! having continuity is a valid excuse for higher priority than Wheel, especially if there's a tournament going on, but more viewers I have a hard time accepting as an excuse. Besides, moves like this make it a catch 22. If Wheel can't air, then J! will always "have more viewers". I know for a fact that J! gets more viewers than Wheel in the NYC market, and they have for a long time, but WABC rarely plays favorites with either show in terms of their broadcasts. The only time I recall them going out of their way to show J! was when they cut away from breaking news on the 2015 Paris terrorist attacks to show a TOC game, then went back to news instead of showing Wheel. However, WABC does air way more J! promos than Wheel ones.

Also, due the NBA Christmas Day games Wheel will be pre empted again WABC TV. Why does WABC TV always do that on Christmas because I want to hear Pat and Vanna wish Wheel Watchers a Merry Christmas. I am surprised to hear the NYC market has more Jeopardy! viewers than Wheel. I always thought Wheel had more viewers in the New York area because according to some sources Wheel averages 25 million viewers a week and Jeopardy! 23 million viewers a week.

Christmas Day NBA on ABC is a tripleheader again this year. Wheel is affected in all of its time slots except for 7:30PM PT, although most stations on the West Coast are still moving or dropping the show. Two affiliates in the Central Time Zone are actually airing Wheel several hours early, before the NBA games begin. Little Rock is getting the show 6 1/2 hours before the rest of America, and parts of Mississippi are just one hour behind them. Any affiliates not listed below (WABC New York, WPVI Philadelphia, WJLA Washington DC, etc.) are not airing Wheel at all. MARKET | STATION | WHEEL TIME | Little Rock, AR | KATV | 11:30AM CT | Meridian, MS | WTOK | 12:30PM CT on WTOK-DT3 (CW) | Orlando, FL | WFTV | 5:00PM ET Sun | Albany, NY | WTEN | 2:07AM ET | Portland, ME | WMTW | 2:07AM ET | Asheville, NC | WLOS | 3:35AM ET | Amarillo, TX | KVII | 12:07AM CT | Jonesboro, AR | KAIT | 12:07AM CT | Omaha, NE | KETV | 1:37AM CT | Chicago, IL | WLS | 2:07AM CT | Tulsa, OK | KTUL | 2:37AM CT | Rapid City, SD | KOTA | 9:00PM MT | Eureka, CA | KAEF | 8:30PM PT | San Francisco, CA | KGO | 9:00PM PT (After 12/24 episode) | Sacramento, CA | KXTV | 9:00PM PT | Bend, OR | KOHD | 9:00PM PT | Los Angeles, CA | KABC | 9:30PM PT | Fresno, CA | KFSN | 9:30PM PT | Portland, OR | KATU | Not affected | Reno, NV | KOLO | Not affected | Medford, OR | KDRV | Not affected | Anchorage, AK | KYUR | Not affected | Fairbanks, AK | KATN | Not affected | Juneau, AK | KJUD | Not affected |
Note that the West Coast and Alaska stations that are still keeping Wheel at 7:30PM PT/6:30PM AT may end up having the show pre-empted in part or in full if the final game runs over. KOMO Seattle originally had Wheel scheduled for 8:00PM PT, but ABC's post-game filler blackish rerun was moved to that time and Wheel is now off the schedule, but Jeopardy! remains. Note that some stations that are not airing Wheel at all on 12/25 may opt to air the rest of the week's episodes a day behind from Wed-Sat. WPVI Philadelphia did this last year, although the Saturday rerun still aired on Saturday instead of the week's Friday episode.

Why do some stations seem to favor Jeopardy! more? As Robert said, continuity, whether it's returning champs or a Tournament. Wheel hasn't had either of those in many years. Hey, Wheel: If you want to avoid being randomly pre-empted like this (which doubtlessly hurts your ratings), all you have to do is add returning champs to your format in the same way Jeopardy! does it. It's literally that simple.

Except I've been told directly by not one, but two stations that they favor Jeopardy! because of "more viewers", and not because of the continuity, which I find surprising and kind of shady. I mean, I do occasionally see stations give better treatment to Wheel (such as KDVR Denver airing Wheel overnight during TNF conflicts but not airing J! at all), so it's really all subjective in the end, either way.

J! is innovative with their promotions department that it makes me prefer them over Wheel. It's sad that Wheel is declining so much. There are people out there that are so delusional regarding the status of Wheel that it is sickening. Wheel has until 2023 at best. I think that Wheel is on it's last legs.

In addition to the nationwide ABC pre-emption, Wheel will also be pre-empted on two local NBC affiliates on Christmas Day.
WMC in Memphis, Tennessee and KCBD in Lubbock, Texas will both be airing the hour-long syndicated Christmas special Holiday Homecoming with Jewel in the 6:00PM CT hour. Neither station is airing Wheel at all.

Last night's Wheel was pre-empted on CBS affiliate WIVB in Buffalo, New York by "Running with the Bulls: Bowl Preview", a local special on SUNY Buffalo's college football team competing in the MAC Championship.
Wheel was moved to sister station CW affiliate WNLO at its regular time, replacing Inside Edition. However, listings still showed the latter. One viewer in the area complained on the official Wheel Facebook group that her DVR did not record last night's episode.

I don't think anyone has a definitive answer, but based on my interpretations and recent findings of the show, I think the clock is ticking. Just because Wheel has a contract til 2021 doesn't mean they cannot be cancelled in between. If Wheel wants to be more outgoing to youthful people, they need to do things that I will discuss another time, but expanding their social profile should be a priority.

*WFTV Orlando is not showing Wheel at all on 12/25, however, they have two airings of Wheel scheduled for the following weekend: Saturday, 12/29 at 11:30PM ET and Sunday, 12/30 at 5:00PM ET. Both of these airings are listed as the week's Saturday rerun (S35 E173, Spa Getaway), but this likely means that one of these two weekend airings will be a makeup airing of the 12/25 episode, or the Tue-Fri episodes will be pushed back to air Wed-Sat, with the rerun on Sunday. WFTV updated their listings. The Saturday airing was pushed back to 12:00AM ET and is still listed as the S35 rerun. The Sunday airing is still at 5:00PM but is now a blank listing with no episode info. This very likely means that the 12/25 episode will be airing Sunday in Orlando. Jeopardy! is listed the same way, with the Saturday rerun on Saturday and a blank listing on Sunday at 5:30, with no airing at all on 12/25. WFTV's website still lists both game shows' two weekend airings as the Saturday reruns.
Another listings oddity for this week: CBS affiliate WMAZ in Macon, Georgia has the wrong episode listed for this Friday. Listings show the Friday episode from three weeks ago (Dec. 7 from Winter Break week; Natalie/Andy/Evan) instead of Home for the Holidays. However, their website does list the correct episode.

If you want a syndicated game show that's on its last legs, just look at Millionaire. In fairness, it's still going despite the Clock and Shuffle formats plus the host position changing three times in three years, so it's resilient if nothing else. On the other hand, Millionaire's gone 15 years (or 9 if you count that asinine Tournament of Ten) without awarding the top prize, which is no doubt why it regularly gets 4-5 less ratings points than Wheel, Jeopardy!, and Feud (only ever beating Funny You Should Ask, but that's really not hard to do).

On the other hand, the fact Millionaire's gone 15 years (or 9 if you count that asinine Tournament of Ten) without awarding the top prize is just plain silly. Nobody has even seen a million-dollar question in 5 years, two hosts ago. But at least Millionaire doesn't avoid pop culture that existed after 1989. You usually can't go more than three questions without a question starting with "In 201X..." or "According to X.com..."

Final NBA game ran over. ABC joined regular programming in progress ( blackish for the East Coast) at 10:41PM ET. Any stations that had Wheel scheduled for 7:30PM PT would have been joined in progress around the end of Round 2. These are the contestants from the 12/25 episode: If you see these players tomorrow, your station is opting to air the rest of this week a day late.

AFAIK, no ABC stations have opted to air this week on a delay. WFTV Orlando is the only station I've found that has aired or is airing the 12/25 episode on a later date as opposed to overnight or not at all. A friend of mine in southern NJ who watches on WPVI confirmed that station aired Tom/Jessica/Zakiya on 12/26.
Good news for Nashville viewers. Starting next week, Wheel is back to its normal time on Mondays on WKRN. No more weekly pre-emptions with mindless football discussion. WBZ Boston's Friday pre-emptions continue for now.
